They'll still "make" chips, but I imagine they might not own (as many) fabs any more.
It looks like the article is much shorter than it appeared when I saw it yesterday..

It's behind a paywall. Eiter try turning off javascript, or feed the link to archive.ph. The archive.ph method produced a long version of the article for me.

Similarly, it wanted me to disable my adblocker. I closed the
browser, and didn't read the article. ;)
I run into the same thing. If I feel like I have to read the
article, I'll temporarily disable the ad blocker. Otherwise, I
close the window on it.
Never before has one needed to disable an ad blocker to read an article/webpage, until recently. If they want to shove that many
cookies down our throats, or bombard us with advertisements,
or force one to give up their location, I'm not interested
enough to use their site.

Agreed. If I could pick the ads for products that I wanted or
needed, it'd be a different story.
My SPAM folder tells a story. First I got emails from match.com,
trying to find a partner to date. Then, it was eHarmony, deciding
I was ready to settle down with the love of my life.
A few years later, I was bombarded with Ashley Madison ads,
apparently thinking my eHarmony soulmate and I were unhappy together.
Then came MyTime, a dating site for 50+ singles "looking for a little
fun".
Now, they've collectively given up on my love life. I get SPAM emails
from GolfMates trying to find quality golf foursomes.
I don't get any of that stuff. could be you are inviting that stuff in with what you do on the internet.
