    i think the main thing is that it's not really important if the site's dead for a long time or not, just not dead-dead.

    to relate it to programming: i might cringe a little when i see a github project that hasn't been updated for 3 years.. but 1 year gets me into that window of "yeah at least if i posted a bug it might get fixed"

    there's enough news to just post a digest of (seemingly useless) info like updates to software and then if there's better stuff, sprinkle that in there.

    also don't use a CMS or wiki software or anything.. easiest way to kill off the hope of keeping something around is having to make sure some mysql database backend and php and all that stuff is updated and works. just flat html is fine for most stuff. *NO FORUMS* haha. everyone seems to want to make a web bbs about bbsing like some sort of meta thing that will "Definitely Work This Time (tm)"

    i duno, just blathering. but from a quick google it seems either there are no bbs news sites at all, or they're so messed up google doesn't rank them very highly

    well i used a cms and wordpress for a while and those worked fine.
    but people dont want to contribute so people stopped making an account and posting news. the people before me ran various cms systems too.

    oh those fido fags always hate synchronet and rob. they claim synchronet is out of spec all the time.

    i see fidonews still does not use non retarded file extensions as well.
    and their links have sites that have been dead over 10 years.
