Pressing Ctrl-U gives you a user listing? Normally, that's a node listing, which doesn't include location.

In any case, the CP437 chars in user locations seem to be working for me in v3.20:
    Testtest #818 M”lndal 10/25/22 Telnet

    Similarly, if I run userlist.js:
    818/1457 Testtest M”lndal Telnet

And when viewing the logon list/last few callers:
    11 228798 Testtest M”lndal 11:36 Telnet 1

How do the user locations look in the user editor? Or if you just view your data/user/user.tab file in a text viewer/editor?

    More information is needed,

Those are HTML entity-encodings you're seeing and I have no explanation of why they would have been created in the user.tab file.

Do you mind running 'upgrade_to_v320' again and checking the user.tab file after a fresh conversion? The location fields (and all other string fields) should appear exactly the same as they do in the user.dat file after conversion.

Is it possible you're doing something in custom JavaScript, reading and writing user records?

Okay, so the big question now is: how did those HTML-entities end up in your user.tab file? Did you edit the file by hand or run some custom script on it?

but I can't find new useredit anywhere that writes to user.tab???

The Windows useredit.exe has not be updated to support the user.tab file yet. You can use the ;UEDIT sysop command in the mean-time.

HTML entities would likely come from some JavaScript code somewhere. If you could help me track down when this is happening to your user base and what JavaScript was running at that time, that'd be very helpful.

So far, nobody else has reported this as an issue, but most sysops don't allow non-ASCII characters in their user strings either.

If you don't have a data/user/user.tab file, then it'll need to be run.

The Windows useredit.exe in the new_user_dat branch was recently re-written in C++Builder (previously was written in Delphi). Have you tried it out yet? I know it looks nearly identical to the old one, but it'll say v3.20 in the title bar when you run it.

Yes, it works just as well as the old one. But had hoped it would be a little bigger, it is very small on my 8K monitor.
And if I enter Swedish characters in built-in useredit, they get black squares in useredit.exe. How can I change it so it uses cp437 in useredit.exe??
