There's a Linux utility called "script" that will pretty much do this
offline! It's kinda magic.

$ script --log-timing=mytiming.txt mysession.txt
Script started, output log file is 'mysession.txt', timing file is

'mytiming.txt'.

$ echo "do some stuff here on the terminal..."
...
$ exit
Script done.
$ scriptreplay -t mytiming.txt mysession.txt

But asciicinema also generates a convenient video you can watch in the
browser and share with people, which is very cool.
