I recently purchase an HP 7601 Econ tank printer that uses HP Smart.

I had an HP Office Jet printer 5740.

Since I gave the 5740 away, I wanted to remove the drivers. In doing so,
I discover there are no drivers for the HP7601 in the Device Manager.
This printer was set up on the local area network and never as a direct connect device.

Is it safe to remove the drivers from the Imaging Device and Printers
    folder in the Device Manager.

    Am I missing something?

Normally, and in my case on this device both printers(each printer is at
two different physical locations) were setup as Local Area Network printers(one printer Lan cable to router and the other printer wireless
to router) - i.e. neither using the printers' built in wifi direct option
    - that feature is turned off on both printers.

Device Manager's 'Printers' subfolder shows both devices(printers) as currently setup on the device (one available the other not, miles away)

Device Manager's Imaging Devices subfolder, shows only the printer at
this location with its name and suffix of(NET).

Imo, if the donated(gave away) printer is present or not present in
Device Manager/Printers and still present in Device Manager/Imaging Devices...then removing if present from either location should cause no harm.
Prior to doing so, you might consider opening/looking in Windows/Settings/Bluetooth and devices/Devices/More Devices and printers settings(to access the older Control Panel device UI). If your 'gave
away' printer is still present, remove , restart Windows, then go looking
in Device Manager for the old printer and then removal.

Note: When looking in Device Manager
    1. The devices/printer 'Properties' listed in the subfolder named
Printers - does not show or have a Drivers tab - only a General,
Settings, Details, Events tab. The General tab only shows a name, type, manufacture, and location.
    2. The devices/printer 'Properties' listed in subfolder named Imaging
Device does have a Drivers tab(General, Driver, Detail, Events)
