    I read 2 or 3, realized what he was about and then sorted the
    newsgroup by name, highlighted the culprit's messages (ctrl-K on
    Agent) then cleared all 'read' messages then after that put the
    message sequence back on chronological.

    Takes at most 5 minutes and usually quite a bit less than that.

    5 minutes. WOW. My SeaMonkey Suite (think Firefox plus Thunderbird
    plus), I can filter on a particular poster (like you) and have their
    posts 'Mark as Read' or 'Delete them'. In the first, their posts still appear in the list of messages (so I CAN read their posts if I want) and
    in the other case, I don't even see their posts listed in the Threads pane.

    Same can be dome in Thunderbird, and I suspect most newsreaders. TB (and others) can also act of the references field, so - if wished - one can
    avoid even seeing _responses_ to the person one does not wish to.
