Bill Gates and YOU ASSHOLES who don't do any actual work need to focus on fixing the broken-assed operating system and stop with the browser crap.

My view is the engine is great, it's all the add-ons that are screwed.
I think Paul got it right, "You had one job to do...".

All the "unpopular" ones - basically Vista and 8 - did bring some things
we now take for granted, some of which are definitely improvements.

There are certain topics here, that are water under the bridge.
That search box, is the wormhole of irrelevancy. MSN hides
at the bottom of the hole, filling our brains with crap.
Who would go there ? And under what drug-addled circumstances ?
This is what we call "local optimization, of failed concepts".
An hour ago, I installed a game in Windows 11, and the game is
not listed in the "Menu". How could we have yet one more local
optimization, where the things I install in the OS, are NOT
getting listed in the menu. "You had one job to do..." comes
to mind.
"I'm bored, maybe we could change the purple deck chair to
a green deck chair." Well, hows about getting rid of the
deck altogether ? If nobody uses the deck because it sucks,
what's the point of changing the colors ? And you know they
do measure engagement, they have the instrumentation to prove
a concept is a failure. It's not like they're flying blind.

Sadly so true.
One major change between Win10 21H2 and 22H2 was the dialog for network settings is now buried one level deeper, still the same dialog when you finally get to it, and the same colour.
I decided this morning I would have one more attempt at using Visual
Studio 2026. Download wouldn't start whatever route I used, in the end I found an alleged direct link but it downloaded VS2022.
I tried to update one of my programs to NET 8 to see if there are any benefits to discover a lot of the framework is no longer included but
has to be downloaded separately from NuGet.
Hard to understand how MSFT makes its money nowadays.

What do you mean by 'getting better'? What exactly are you looking for?
Have you tried using Windows 11 to see if it's any different to previous >versions? Billions of people use it and seem happy with it.
I suggest you try it before reading the nonsense on these newsgroups or >clickbait websites or YouTube. Ultimately, you have to rely on your own >personal experience to determine whether something is right for you.
Yes I have tried Windows 11 and the fixed Taskbar at the bottom of the screen in the days when screens are wider and shorter is moronic

in the OS.
Ah, you're referencing the popular "every second version is good/bad"
meme, are you?
There does seem to be _something_ in it.
3.1 was OK, within its limitations.
95 was such a big change that it's hard to say. It brought a lot of new things, most of which have become the norm.
98 _was_ an improvement (especially USB).
98SE was an improvement.
Me wasn't _bad_ as such, just didn't really make much impact.
XP was good, or at least popular.
(Yes, I'm aware that prior to - and to some extent including - XP, there
were two threads - the "home" one, 95/98/98SE/Me, and the NT
"professional" one. [And yes, I know that's an oversimplification.]
XP-64 was arguably more NT than XP.)
Vista is widely considered to have been bad, though it has its advocates
and did introduce some things (though some in a rather clunky manner).
7 was (is) liked.
8 (and 8.1) was (were) widely disliked, mainly for forcing the metro way
of working. (You could get the old desktop, but things were clunky.)
[I forget why there wasn't a 9.]
10 was - is - liked, though not seen as _that_ different from 7.
11 seems to be curate's egg/marmite; many dislike it, if only because of
its forcing (without many shenanigans) of new hardware for little
perceived improvement. Some do like it though.
All the "unpopular" ones - basically Vista and 8 - did bring some things
we now take for granted, some of which are definitely improvements.

My suspicion, meaning I am pulling this out my ear, is that
W12 with be M$'s first YUGE foray into an AI dominated OS.
And, knowing M$'s reputation for bad code, it will be a
complete disaster.
M$'as goal is to change the user into the product.
I could be wrong though, but I do not think so.

The organization chart in a company, makes a big difference
to the results. Now, try and imagine in your mind, what
kind of "steering wheel" the Windows group has. Panos Panay
quit, and someone took his place as Hardware head, and
that person is also "stuck with" the Windows (software) group.
So right away, what motivations does the Windows group have ?

AFAIK, this Taskbar feature will be back Real Soon (TM). Winston can probably fill us in, but AFAIK/AFAIR, it's currently being tested in
some Insider build.

You are certainly an expert at blaming everything on Indian and Chinese people. Fortunately, there is nothing you can do about that. The
combined population of India and China is around 3 billion. This
accounts for almost 40% of the global population, and they have
considerable influence in Africa and Latin America.
Given the ageing population and falling birth rate of 1.6 children per family, you could safely argue that the USA and the West won't exist in
60 years.
