• Photoshop and Acrobat Replacement

From MegaNZ@3:633/10 to All on Thu Oct 8 22:43:00 2026
Vibe has created an alternative to Photoshop and released its source
code on GitHub. It is completely free, and a portable version is also available.

According to media reports, the developer, Vibe, has used AI to
replicate all Adobe products, so you just need to search for names such as:

    *Craft

Replace '*' with the name of the relevant Adobe product to find the corresponding Vibe's product. The Photoshop replacement, for example, is called PhotoCraft:< https://getartcraft.com/apps/photocraft>.

To create and edit PDF files, follow this link: <https://getartcraft.com/apps/pdfcraft/>.

The full list of apps can be found here:

I think these products are really useful. They're free for now, but you
can always make a contribution to stop the developer from selling his
    business to big companies!

ArtCraft describes it as an open-source image editor written in Rust, with Photoshop-like layers, masks, adjustment layers, PSD/PSB support, etc.

PhotoCraft, VectorCraft, FilmCraft, LightCraft, PdfCraft, EffectCraft, and DesignCraft, corresponding roughly to Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, Lightroom, Acrobat, After Effects, and InDesign.

The AI wording in the OP is misleading, I think, as the developer describes these as clean-room implementations written from scratch in Rust, rather
than having AI copy Adobe's source code.

It's not really a clean-room, when an LLM-AI is involved.

The LLM-AI is being used to "obfuscate the license on FOSS software".
A lot of FOSS software is in the training set. And the people scraping
github and putting that in the training set, have no idea, nor do they
care, which license is involved. With the distros for Linux, there are
ten classifications for licensing, and the package herders (build packages
and patch them) have to be aware of what license (or license(s)) apply
    to a particular package.

If the stolen Adobe source code happens to be in an LLM-AI training set,
a forensic researcher may be able to figure this out and make it stick
    in court.

These ideas eventually have to go to court, to establish criterion for
judging whether commercial software made this way... has any leg at
all to stand on. For example, if Adobe or Microsoft were using LLM-AI
to modify their product source code, they could be just as guilty and
goofy on concepts, as the guy running this project. The LLM-AI is
not a license to print money. Not until the courts have their say.

The LLM-AI does not "think", and a lot of the patterns in the code,
may be traceable to files in the training set. It's not a "laundry service".
