That's the Kindle from 2011 I have that was 3G. The 3G option didn't last >long so they are all wi-fi now. The Kindle itself still works but 3G is >gone. I thought that option must have been a pain for Amazon since every >reader would have a telephone number.
I opened a dead one and found a SIM chip. I don't think they had phone
numbers since they were data only.
What was particularly amazing was that they had roaming agreements all
over the world and a web browser good enough to do simple stuff. One
time I used it to check my mail from a sheep pasture in Iceland.
