...not 37ABF05 as previously reported!
Decently enjoyable episode, maybe nothing mindblowing for the
(unintended) milestone (of a sort), nor as heartstring-tugging as
perhaps the dog story was hoped to be. But as a Philadelphia (more or
less) native I enjoyed that a bit. (Did you know that one of the many Springfields in America is also a Philly suburb?) In fact, I had a hunch
and was correct that this would be written by Christine Nangle, who
(IIRC) is from the area and has gotten some mileage out of it (writing
and acting), for example on Kroll Show (Pawnsylvania) and American Dad! (Smooshed: A Love Story, which was probably a funnier cameo for the city).
Previous episode stuff
7G08, 2F09, FABF15: obviously fake 4:3 "historical" clips over the years
as prologue set during these episodes
Goof/trim
When Marge first spies Homer's to-do list, it's folded neatly in
quarters, but in the very next shot, it's crumpled into a ball before
Homer picks it up. Possibly a comedic beat was cut?
Goof of another sort
There was a LOT of bottom third promotion tonight, as opposed to the one
or two distractions we usually get. Of note, though, about 2 minutes
into act 2, the wrong promo for Universal Basic Guys played, suggesting
it was coming on at 8:30 (when really it was 9[:02])! At least that's
only Fox's mistake.
Milestone
This was promoted, not terribly heavily but somewhat, as being the
show's 800th episode, with a proclamation in the opening too. Well, for
once the creative accounting department has a bit of a point. See my
notes on 37ABF04, but although that's a pretty sensible episode to point
to, it is true that this was the 800th episode broadcast ON FOX,
ignoring the streaming-only episodes. Funny though that what was
previously being reported as the 800th episode (which would have been,
in production order) hasn't even gotten on the schedule yet. More
thoughts on that in my notes on next episode.
And by sheer chance I had the TV tuned to Fox at about 2:15 this
afternoon as the episode was being promoted and someone in a Bart
costume was shown getting ready to wave the green flag to start the
Daytona (500, not 800). And then he did. Didn't know that was going to
happen. Did anyone else?
