Been a while since I just sat down and had time for reading anything. Considering going through my dad's old books (all on Calibre). Mostly scifi stuff. That or I may reread the Dark Tower series.

Just haven't had much free time for anything over the last five years with the job change. On call literally about 335 days a year.

I haven't read much fancy outside Tolkien's Hobbit and LoTR.
But I've heard that Lackey weaves a good tale.

Just finished Daemon by Daniel Suarez.

Ends with a clear cliff-hanger. Apparently Freedom follows and
    concludes the journey.

thanks for the update. i was a bit familar with baldacci's zero day so the initial reference seemed odd.

interesting that bill gates mentions that the author used to work for microsoft:

"<<Mark came to Microsoft in 2006 to help advance the state of the art of Windows, now in his latest compelling creation he is raising awareness of the all too real threat of cyber terrorism.>> --Bill Gates"

I knew of Mark initially from his work on Sysinternals:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/

"The Sysinternals web site was created in 1996 by Mark Russinovich to host his advanced system utilities and technical information. Whether you're an IT Pro or a developer, you'll find Sysinternals utilities to help you manage, troubleshoot and diagnose your Windows and Linux systems and applications."

Microsoft acquired Sysinternals in July of 2006.

    If you liked Daemon..

So.. are you familiar with it? It is an interesting techo-
    thriller with almost-sufficient-enough technical explanation.

The only part that I found hard believing were the AutoM8s and
    the killer motorcycles.

The "reverse concept" of a backdoor seemed unique and well
    imagined.

I thought this was interesting too:

"Daniel Suarez (born December 21, 1964) is a former American
information technology consultant turned author. He initially
published under the pseudonym Leinad Zeraus (his name spelled
    backwards)."

Yeah, I've read/listened to Daemon, Zero Day & Freedom. They were recommended on the Security Now podcast several years ago and I quite liked them all. I remember a couple of times reading before bed doing the "just one more chapter" thing.

The only part that I found hard believing were the AutoM8s and
    the killer motorcycles.

The "reverse concept" of a backdoor seemed unique and well

That's what I liked about these books, they're written by people who work in tech so the technology they describe is at least realistic/believable even if they do take some creative liberties.

His name is at least passable when spelled backwards. Yaj Sirrah or Nosaj Sirrah doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

Only thing I've read by Lackey is some of the Darkover stuff and that was a long time ago. Looking at her bibliography she's done quite a bit. May need to give it a look.
