we certainly heard them at midday in SE melb suburbs, even in the face
of a 75kmh wind gust at the same time.

Retiring very soon, will have time to get back to the Avalon airshow,
and i'll be flying in again (as a pax) ... stuff driving....

Only been there once and driving wasn't as bad as I thought it would be,
we originally planned to get a helicopter flight to the show but the day before they called and said that the R44 we had booked was grounded for maintenance and if we still wanted to fly they would have to send a much bigger machine at double the price so we cancelled.

Me, and the Wurth rep couldnt get out the office door quick enough. Unfortunately they were behind the clouds somewhere..

Have seen 2 x F-15's doing a lap sideways around the bay... when the

Bastards. i've flown there and back (as a pax) 3 times from Moorabbin,
and i live 5 kays from MBN . It's not cheap, but I couldn't be shagged,
after the first Airshow, where we spent nearly 4 hours on a fucking bus
    from Flinders St, to Avalon...

Now, with time, really looking forward to Avalon, and maybe fly up to
the airshow at the gold coast? next year... (forgotten the name and time...)

I was talking to a bloke at a car club event a few weeks ago and he owns
a Cessna 210, he told me that he regularly flies from Geelong where he
lives to his holiday home in Ballina NSW, takes about 4.5hrs which is
probably quicker than flying commercial once you factor in getting to
    and from an airport.

I haven't checked prices for travel insurance for the OS trip we are
planning for mid next year but I'm guessing it won't be cheap, turned 70
a few months ago and it seems insurance companies think older people are
a bigger risk or maybe they think we have more money so they can gouge us.

˙Thanks for that, as he looks at insurance for the two cruises
booked, and the 2 per year till I'm dead. :-)

    ˙One-cover?

I haven't checked prices for travel insurance for the OS trip we are
planning for mid next year but I'm guessing it won't be cheap,

That's what Noel Whittaker has reported but he is over 80
and ended up with RACQ but with lesser cover than his usual.

turned 70 a few months ago and it seems insurance companies think
older people are a bigger risk

    Of course they are.

or maybe they think we have more money so they can gouge us.

The price starts to climb in your 70s, once over 80, they really hammer
you especially on a cruise, one quote for a 30 day cruise was $6000,
i.e. $200 per day! It's getting quite ridiculous.

As soon as you put cruise on the form, the price goes up, $2800 in one
case. We are booked on a long cruise next October, but are thinking of
walking away from our deposit due to the cost of insurance (considering
the places that we will visit, insurance is essential unfortunately)

It would be interesting to see their numbers with claims.

Noel wasn't talking about cruises, just a trip to the USA.

It's expensive for the US, especially if a cruise is involved. The wife
broke her shoulder on a US trip, it would have cost us a couple of thou without insurance, mind you getting the (well known) company to pay up
    was a major task.

Most likely because many countries in UK/Europe have reciprocal health agreements with Australia. https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/about-reciprocal-health-care-agreements?context=22481

Friends recently spent 8 weeks in the US visiting family, he is a dual
US Australian citizen, due to having to extend their stay they run out
of their usually medications, a family member is a doctor so no cost to
get prescriptions but because they don't have any US medical insurance
each script which cost less that AU$10.00 cost more than US$300each, 2
scripts each total cost in excess of US$1200, they were trying to claim
back on their travel insurance, I haven't heard how that went.

A yank on facebook was comparting the US and Thailand.

they were trying to claim back on their travel insurance,

Why did they have to extend their stay ?

His 94yr old mother had a fall while they were there and due to her
fragile health they didn't want to go home until she either got better
or died, fortunately the tough old bird got better.
I will be seeing them tomorrow so I will try and remember to ask how
they went with the travel insurance.

˙Noel wasn't talking about cruises, just a trip to the USA.

It's expensive for the US, especially if a cruise is involved. The
wife broke her shoulder on a US trip, it would have cost us a couple
of thou without insurance, mind you getting the (well known) company
to pay up was a major task.

Paul Edwards who used to post here a decade or so ago managed to smash
his ankle coming down the airport escalator. Cost tens of Ks to fix,
    still not paid out yet.

Money only travels in one direction.
