Thursday, February 26th, will be another day of strikes in Italy. Ground crews at airports and employees of ITA Airways, EasyJet, and Vueling in Italy will be on strike. The Italian railways will also be on strike in the following days.
The aviation strike was originally planned for February 16th, but to avoid disrupting the Winter Olympics, which conclude on Sunday, it was postponed. Now, the strike has finally happened. ITA Airways expects 55 percent of its flights to be canceled and reports on its website which flights will be canceled.
Ground crews throughout Italy will be on strike all day, except during the hours when a strike ban is in effect. These mandatory hours for passenger aviation are from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Perishable goods are also required to be transported.
Pilots and cabin crew from ITA Airways, easyJet, and Vueling will strike on Thursday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
he ground crew union's demands include fairer calculation of vacation days, a minimum 30 percent bonus for Sunday work, a change of clothes at the beginning and end of shifts, and a meal voucher of 10 euros per day.
The rail strike will begin on the evening of February 27th and will end the following evening. Gruppo FS Italiane (the state-owned railways), Italo, and Trenord will participate; the impact could also be significant in this case.
As always, the strike may result in service changes, both before and after it ends.
