• Running beside the BBS a forum server

From Michael Selhof@2:240/8050 to All on Sun Feb 18 16:26:32 2024
A friendly hello to all readers!

Some people might know that I run a BBS.
In addition, I thought early on about how the topic of BBS'ing could
be made more popular? I noticed that a lot of users ˙prefer˙ to go
to a forum rather than a BBS. That's why I had firmly planned to open
one as a second project. And what can I say.... The basic structure
of the forum server is now in place and waiting for people to come in.
This forum exclusively deals with the topic of BBS'ing. Ideally, there will
be enough people who would like to share their experiences or suggestions
on this topic? Long story short sense....

    www.sysops-finest.org

would be the address. And the server ist multilingual (german/english) with it's main treads.

    Have a great day!

Not necessarily, at least not in my case. I have regular callers here.

The deeper meaning of this forum are not the callers. Apart from that, behavior
varies from country to country. This is actually about us sysop's. The aim the forum is to bring many Sysop's together at one table in order to create much dialogue as possible. To bring together at one point the knowledge tha is actually distributed across many networks. It is important to start from

I'm game for really any type of conversation about BBS'ing.... but.... having been around for a long time, I notice the following patterns.

    - Linux Linux Linux. An obscene amount of Linux, to the point of a few who
felt the need to shove it down my throat when opportunity arose. Yes I know theres a tinkering aspect of Linux. Its fun to mess around with but I'm the type of Sysop who made an XP system work and largely left it alone. I simply do not have interest in the tech-aspect that much anymore so that excludes me from at least 90% of most conversation.

    - Every few years or so a Sysop makes noise with the "Next Best Thing" which when that does not catch on, that Sysop and conversation vanishes.

    - Sysops who have really good intentions and well-meaning, who up and vanish, in some cases the ZC of a popular Othernet which really had the good Sysop convo you mention.... left many Sysops "hanging" with a bad aftertaste.

But its fun to run a board and I cannot imagine my tech-life without it.
