    Hello Carlos,

    Do/did you have French-speaking echos in Fidonet-Canada?

There was french echo at one time but it wasn't all that busy.

There aren't enough nodes anymore to support something like that.

I am not certain we have many/any nodes in French speaking parts of Canada or France or any other French part of the world. :(

    Carlos,

    Do/did you have French-speaking echos in Fidonet-Canada?

To my knowledge, as far as french-language echoes, there was a bunch with french-speaking Belgium, french-speaking Switzerland and french-speaking Canada.

Among these countries there was something going-on called "Franco-media". I don't know what it was about. France never was big in Fidonet because people were playing with their Minitel. French-speaking Belgium and Switzerland were only having a handful of nodes each, maybe 1 in Luxembourg. I would guess Franco Media collapsed because there was not a single feed of whatever.
Any remaining nodes in Canada? I honestly doubt it.

Do you mean FRANCAIS? Or did you have Canadian echos?

    Ok, just curious.

Interesting. I guess that those echos no longer exist...

I did a quick search on google and it seems that FrancoMedia was a French-speaking FTN othernet that used zone 101.

Yes, I knew about that. I suppose they didn't do much BBSing in general...

I don't see any french speaking echoes currently. I forget now but I think the area tag was FRANCAIS but I don't know where it oeiginated.

There aren't enough nodes anymore to support something like that.

    Ok, just curious.

I wouldn't be able to participate in a french (or any other language for that matter) area but if folks wanted to put it together I would add the area here and make it available to others who are interested.

FRANCAIS existed since long ago. It was still available on Janis' system.
I've rescanned it from one of my links. It seems it was quite dead (at least this century), and last message is from 2015.

BTW there was also another French echo, FRANCENET, that I've found in old areafix messages from the late 90s. (No idea if it had traffic.)

    I wouldn't be able either O:-) I don't know French.
