Immortal Barons is a turn-based strategy game for the terminal. You rule a barony in a ruined, post-apocalyptic
world. You buy land, feed your people, build an army, and fight rival empires. The goal is to have the highest
net worth when the turns run out, or to conquer everyone else.
The game is written in Go. It is an independent remake, inspired by the 1990s BBS door game Barren Realms
Elite.
Early work in progress. Immortal Barons is not ready for real play-testing or inter-BBS (IBBS) play yet.
Mechanics are still changing.
This is a game I'm working on.

Can I create a win32 go binary? Will there be socket support? If you want to support DOS and Win32 BBSes, these are mandatory...

DOS won't be supported, unfortunately. As for winsock, here's a copy of
what I wrote in the fsx echo ;)

Thank you for the question! This is my first door and I hadn't given that any thought. I've implemented it but don't have a live Windows BBS to test it on. Some info about winsock support in Immortal Barons at https://andy5995.github.io/immortal-barons/door-setup/#how-the-game-talks- o-th -caller
Please let me know if you try it out and your results.

Many DOS BBSes are under Windows 32 bit and can run 32 bit windows
doors.

I guess I could compile it, but I'd really like a Win32 binary.

Is this UTF-8 or CP-437? It's got some weird characters. My system
uses CP437.

Do I need to run nightly maintenance, or does this run the first game
of a day? I can see this with IBBS, but with local games I'd like it to only run when played. It's certainly not going to be played every day. Also, do I need to do anything special to get AI barons in the game?

A followup to your question about AI Barons: I've made a change now so to add an AI Baron won't require a reset: Use -add-ai N (it adds N new AI barons and exits).

Thank you!
You're welcome. At this point, you will probably need to reset anyway; I made a
LOT of broad changes yesterday to the game.
Is winsock working properly for you?

For updates, should I just write a script that backs up the executable, curls the zip file, unpacks it and overwrites the original, or do you
have a method for that. I'm not sure how often you update.

could use a script to do what you described, but I think you would need to run the game manually after updating. If a reset is required,
you will either get an error or the game may not run correctly.
When it's further developed, there will be a hard error if a reset
is required, but right now I can't guarantee that. I can try to
remember to ping you on Github if I add a commit that requires
a reset though.
