Facebook requires users to be "at least 13 years old." That's
Facebook's way of saying "13 is fair game for sexual predators." The
other problem is how do they expect to verify that a user is 13? By forcing them to submit a photo so that some pervert in an underground Hawaiian bunker can guess their age?
You're right that it's a control thing. Some people have the "sysgod" mentality.

It seems that there's always an element of pedophilia in these edicts.

Not only "can" they detect if child is 13 or not, but they "can" also detect if Aaron Thomas is REALLY Aaron Thomas. But of course it's BS.
If they can detect a person's age then they should prove it first,
before deploying it on children. (Leftoids are probably letting their
kids do it.)
At the base of it is control over everyone. This whole "think of the children" thing is just an emotional ploy to get people to give up their rights.

That should be clear to most parents.
Remember when parents didn't want
their kids uploading video selfies on the internet? I'm still living in those times.
But the left is trying to trick parents into:
"To make adults happy, you must allow your child to upload video
selfies."
It's like a bartender saying "Your child can drink vodka here, but
first they have to upload a video selfie."
It's like a bartender saying "Your child can drink vodka here, but first they have to upload a video selfie."
But what they SAY they are doing (remember, all Leftie policies always have the opposite impact of what they SAY) is "To prevent your child
But we aren't dealing with non-tech-savvy parents anymore and they can just say "No, I'll just make sure that he doesn't go into a bar or
liquor store".

You're right. They have no legitimate reason to even try to "verify age 13" in the first place, so it's "safe" to assume that they're doing something sinister with these videos.
But we may be dealing with ignorant parents,
and if a big enough
problem arises from their ignorant actions, that opens doors for new
laws that benefit Meta, like "All children throughout the USA must
submit a video selfie to Meta, per new law, because we need to protect children."

The Elitist playbook is:
1. Create a crisis.
2. Use that crisis to get an emotional reaction in the voting public.
3. Use that emotional reaction to get them to give up rights and give the Elitists more power.
