• Tariff Rebates

From Aaron Thomas@1:342/201 to All on Sun Mar 8 11:36:48 2026
Back in November, the Trump administration discussed the possibility of sending $2000 to each American taxpayer this summer, with money saved from the administration's reciprocal tariffs.

However, Democrats don't want Americans to enjoy the benefit of having a president who stands up for them. Furthermore, they don't want us to be thankful to the Trump administration for a pile of cash in our hands.

So they do what's logical: they get their monkeys to demand that the money be given back to the foreign corporations (some state-owned) that it was extracted from, while we continue to pay the prices that result from the tariffs that they impose on us.

    (Thanks a lot Democrats)

I see, even after all this time, that you still have no idea how tarrifs work.

The US gov collected more than 200 billion dollars from tariffs. It didn't cost me a penny. It hurt foreign corporations the most and now Obama's sons want to compensate them for it.

It is ironic that Democrats are even againt using the funds to help pay for the extended ACA subsidies.

This could mean only one thing: they have deals on the table with the foreign companies who lost due to the tariffs. "Get us our money and we'll share it with you."

The cost of the tarrifs was not paid by the foreign manufactures and was passed down to US consumers.

The only way tarrifs would not affect US consumers is if US manufacturing was ready to step in an produce the same products here on US soil, which it has not bee able to do since the late 1980's. It would take several decades for US manufactuing to move that capability back to the USA, and even then the cost of labor alone would be prohibitive.

This doesn't even touch the fact that SCOTUS deemed the tariffs illegal.

That's the most responsible thing to do, but look at the concept that Trump could create for voters: "MAGA politicians put $2000 in my pocket."

Plus it has the potential to make them start to think "F other countries, I like Trump, I like tariffs, I like $2000, and I like America First."

Not like we need more votes, but the more the merrier.

I hear what you're saying, and I hear the media saying the same thing, but hearing and seeing are 2 different things. Prices on things that I buy haven't
gone up since Trump took office, and my electric bill went down.

I just don't see it. Someone said "cellphones will quadruple in price" and I just got a Samsung Galaxy A17 for free from Tmobile. What are you buying? Lamborghinis? Rack servers? Toys with lead paint?

This doesn't even touch the fact that SCOTUS deemed the tariffs illegal.

But the money has already been banked, and new tariffs went into affect just a few days after their ruling.

In the manner he did it... The SCOTUS in their decision was sooooooooo narrow it gave him other ways to do the same thing.

Tariffs are still going and if Trump has his way he'll cut income tax for those under 200K.

Tariffs were the only way the US collected money prior to 1913 with the 16th Amendment added to the books.

Tariffs good, taxing the working class bad.

Well we almost agree on something.

"In the manner he did it.."

Under the U.S. Constitution (Article I, Section 8), Congress holds the primary power to lay and collect tariffs, duties, and imposts"

The executive branch doesn't have the authority to levy tarrifs. FULL STOP.

It wasn't SCOTUS that narrowly interpreted it, it is one of the places the constitution is incedibly narrow, and unfortunately anotehr area congress has largely abdicated it's authority, removing checks and balances.

Tariffs are still going and if Trump has his way he'll cut income tax for those under 200K.

LOL, sure just like. DOGE Checks $5,000 (He claims he didn't say it, but we all know he mouthpieces don't speak without his blessing, and he endorsed it on national television. When in fact it was never seriously proposed to congress by the administration. Lower price of groceries, lower energy prices.

Not only do all of the experts say this is impossible due to bad math, but Trump himself doesn't even rememeber making the promise of rebate checks, "I did do that? When did I do that?"

Tariffs were the only way the US collected money prior to 1913 with the 16th Amendment added to the books.

Gee any why did we do that? Because tariffs weren't an adequate income source, because the importation of goods actually limmits the money those goods can generate, and it unduely burdens the consumers, while bennifiting those with wealth..

Believing anything that comes out of the Trump administration at this point is like beliving that the narcacist you are in a relationship with is willing to change.

I just saw Chuck Schumer admit that 20 million illegals voted in the last election.

My electric bill went up. But that had to do with our idiot gov here in Michigan.

She demanded that DTE build more useless solar farms and windmills. That costs to build and maintain, so DTE keeps asking for rate increases and getting them.
