Disney are doing - or not doing - with "Doctor Who" in 2024...

Please explain the link between the 2005 HHGTTG movie and the recent

    The plot and the feel!

Well I suppose as HHGTTG was written by a man who wrote and script-
edited episodes of Doctor Who in the 1970's, I could accept
"the feel" as a link. As I'm sure there have been a few
similarities, especially back in the day. (Which we could discuss if
you wanted to dust off your old Tom Baker narrated Shada VHS tape.)
But I certainly don't get that "feel" between the 2005 movie version
of HHGTTG and RTD's four 2023 Doctor Who 'specials'!

    (But it has

So what about the whale flowing in space humour?

The Goofy scene with the [imaginary] Whale coming to terms with it's
identity before THUD! ... like the plant pot hitting the window,
doesn't really say Doctor Who to me. (And it wasn't even that funny.)

Star Trek did a Whale in space too...

So what about the whale flowing in space humour?
Just happened to be reading a thread "Dr Who has read the
Hitchhikers Guide?" in the Doctor Who archives and they mentioned
    THE ORIGINAL HHGTTG .....

Quote Something said in passing towards the end of Ghost Light by
    the Doctor went something like:

'Who said "They never invite their ancestors around for dinner"?'

I don't have a tape of the episode to go back and check. It is
obviously a reference to an entry in the Hitchhikers' Guide. These
remarks go past so fast its hard to spot them. Can anyone verify
it, and perhaps know of more like it?

P.S. The other nice bit I remember was in the 25th anniversary
daleks story, where the Doctor and Ace leave a room with a
television going, on the BBC, with an announcer just starting to
introduce a new science-fiction series... End Quote

Anybody know if the line *IS* actually a reference to HHGTTG??

might have to check the radio scripts.

Well, that was of great assistance, "Yellow Beard Yadallee".

Please report the result after you check!!

Many places attribute the quote, or slightly differently worded
versions, to Douglas Adams and according to IMDB.com, the quote is by
    the Guide ("The Book").
    <https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1113227/quotes/>

It does appear in the original BBC TV series transcription: <https://subslikescript.com/series/The_Hitchhikers_Guide_to_the_Galaxy-81874/season-1/episode-1-Episode_11>

    BUT ...
It isn't in the draft movie script: <https://imsdb.com/scripts/Hitchhiker%27s-Guide-to-the-Galaxy,-The.html> <https://assets.scriptslug.com/live/pdf/scripts/the-hitchhikers-guide-to-the-galaxy-2005.pdf>

nor in the original radio script: <https://archive.org/details/the-hitchhikers-guide-to-the-galaxy-by-douglas-adams-and-abbie-bernstein-february-9-1987>

and it doesn't appear in the book either: <https://www.deyeshigh.co.uk/downloads/literacy/world_book_day/the_hitchhiker_s_guide_to_the_galaxy.pdf>
