subscribe you must subscribe to the group you want

Tim, perhaps if you check out the suggestions here .... of course it
might have helped if you tried setting up your account WEEKS ago .... so you'd have had more chances to sort things out!!

    https://www.eternal-september.org/index.php?showpage=faq

Check out points 2 and 3.

Also, Tim, I think E-S is trying to set up a Browser access point to
UseNet, too, but I don't know those details. Perhaps if you used your
E-S Account to check out the posts in eternal-september.support you
    might find a relevant thread.

I Seamonkey and Thunderbird. You right-click the server for subscribe
option. A box pops up and you enter 'drwho' it will find groups
    containing that.
Then it will say 'download 500 headers' or something like that.

Don't help him. You know this group is going to be flooded one more with number and letter spam if he figures out how to connect.

I can't help with SeaMonkey but I did walk a GG poster through
setting up XanaNews on rec.sports.soccer recently, it was hard
work but we got there in the end and he's now posting to Usenet
with his newsreader... so have patience, it might take a bit of
    time but you'll get there.

And if you don't, well... we should have been having this
    discussion a few weeks ago!!!

Can TiSaBr read the E-S instructions from the Web site?

Tim's ultimate insult to TCCK, and Tim's complacency on GG
    led to his Ultimate demise!

What 'ultimate insult to TCCK', "Yellow Beard Yadallee"?

I guess you were sleeping when Tim insulted TCCK!

And YOU, "Yellow Beard Yadallee", are unable to provide what
    'ultimate insult to TCCK'

I doubt Google decided to disconnect Google Groups from Usenet
because Tim insulted the CCK on RADW!!!

It was the spamflood from spammers!

Well then, it was nothing to do with Tim.

    Tim was spamflooding rec.arts.drwho .

Which Google probably didn't know or care about... and even then I
wouldn't say Tim was "spamflooding", not compared to what was going
on in the .comp groups. Your filters could have taken care of Tim,
    just as mine used to.

    <face palm>

Why did you leave it until the last minute?!

Yeah, it seems like he's staring at the shop window advertising
    what's inside.

what he needs is a Newreader program like Thunderbird, together
with the 'Eternal September server settings'.

If Tim had acted sooner he would have got some help in sorting it
out, but he just carried on posting from GG and let the clock tick
    down...

Now i've seen the Eternal September site, i might give them a try,
if only to have a backup. They operate on donations, eg paypal
which means they are foc. Their FAQ seems straightforward enough.

Eternal-september are quite good. I use them as my back-up nntp
service... no binaries obviously, but otherwise they are all you
need to join in the fun and games here.

We'll have to wait and see if Tim resurfaces at any stage... if he
was clever enough to use the NovaBBS link I posted in December he
could (in theory) still be reading this group and your post might
give him the extra detail he needed to complete the process that he
    said he started with e-s.

Tim made his choice for stupidity!

Personally I think Tim thought it wouldn't happen... and then when
it did, it was too late!!!
