It was never intended as serious SF. It's a sitcom in space, and a very
funny one (for five years).
Beside Red Dwarf and Star Trek: Lower Decks, are there any other SF
sitcoms? Futurama, I guess. Krapopolis probably counts.

It's a shame the writers argued. I've heard that Craig

that Red Dwarf would go on when he was free. It did, but s6
really wasn't the same show, and after that it started
spinning out (IMO).

"The Thundermans"?? Surely you meant "Thunderbirds"!!
‘The Thundermans’ was an American children’s sitcom about a family of superheroes.
Although I've never heard of "The Neighbors",
"Metal Mickey",
‘Metal Mickey’ was an eighties British children’s sitcom about a robot.

"Small Wonder",

I alwayd found Red Dwarf to be just idiotic and not even remotely funny.
Mind you, the American version is even worse, as usual. They even had
two attempts at it (video quality is pretty bad):
  - First pilot episode: <https://youtu.be/8mlnntKi2no>

The original Red Dwarf was popular internationally but had trouble
catching on in the USA, IIRC. Maybe that should have told them
something.

I guess my advice would be not to do it, since most Americans don't seem
to go for that style of humor. Those of us who do like it can just watch
the British version.
The same can be said for all the attempted American remakes of various British comedies. Americans just don't get British comedy ... probably because the shows rarely have lots of loud-mouthed idiots shouting
garbage, like most American "comedies" do. :-p
I watched one about alien abductees who formed a support group. Everyone
else thought they were crazy, but the aliens were real (and inept). It
was cancelled quickly, and I've forgotten the name. I enjoyed it,
though.
