I'm relatively sure that I've pointed this out in the past, but there is
no "the" in the phrase "written in stone." The idea that you could
write something *inside of* a stone (which is what you actually wrote)
is ridiculous. The phrase does not mean that the writing is inside of a
stone, or even that it is written *on* the surface of a stone. It means
that it has been *carved into* a stone, and is, therefore unchangeable.
