    Adam Savage's Tested

Adam Savage Goes Hands-On with Star Trek Enterprise Bridge Model!

We welcome to the cave designer and illustrator Matt Cushman, the
artist behind some of our favorite science fiction cutaway
illustrations from Star Trek and Star Wars. Matt shares with Adam
his new massive cross-section poster of the original USS Enterprise,
sized as large as the original 11-foot filming model. We scrutinize
the details of this incredible piece and learn all the ways Matt
made sense of the interior layout based on what was shown in the
    original series episodes!

Like many things, that moved around during the TV show and the movies. :-)

Various references give Kirk's quarters as being on Deck 3, Deck 5, or
Deck 12 (and probably others). Likely it was simply whatever suited the filming and script needs.

I would love a cite that puts Kirk?s quarters anywhere but deck five on
    TOS.

He had Kirk?s quarters on deck five, but he misplaced the entire deck.
Instead of on the widest part of the saucer, where the outside wall would
have that slant, and there would be a window he moved it up into the bump
on the saucer where it couldn?t have either.

The model kit cut away they made about the same time as his initial poster
    got it right.

For example, from the Memory Alpha website:

    - Kirk's Quarters on Deck 5 using references from the episodes
"Mirror, Mirror", "Journey to Babel", "Elaan of Troyius

    - Kirk's Quarters on Deck 12 using references from the episodes
"Mudd's Women", "The Conscience of the King", "The Enemy Within"
