I have seen several Monkey King films over the last decade or so. Some
were animated, some were live-action.
They mostly come in pairs: one on the origin story and the dropping of
the mountain; the others set 500 years later, for his further
adventures.
IIRC, the (or one of the) [1] live-action series was set up for a very
large number of sequels, basically as many as economically feasible,
each dealing with one more step to the destination (and the demon or
demons that must be defeated to move forward). It could well /feel/
like 108,000 miles!
[1] There are more than one animated and one live-action series out
there. Since I am not part of the appropriate culture, I find it hard
to be sure which films are paired with which and which are in a
different set. And, of course, I only see those that are subtitled in
English (so far as I can recall, none were dubbed in English; it
should go without saying that the original language was Chinese).
