Hello all. I have been away for a fair bit, about a year in
    reality.

Welcome back. Alastair Reynolds is one of my favourites and I was
unaware that he had published a new book so thank you. I now have a
copy and am looking forward to it.

I've been a big fan for a long time. He's one of the authors I check on periodically to see if something new is available. Somehow I missed
that a new Murderbot book was out though.

    Hope you enjoy this one.

Reynolds has a few relevant sketches on his blog of the Halcyon, which
people might like to refer to while reading. As an engineer emeritus, I
am unreasonably pleased by them being hand-drawn on quad paper.

This coincided with the start of my move from the Suburban House to the
Fancy New Apartment. The latter is in an urban area of a
highly-regarded suburb (Clayton MO for those that know the area). With
my usual procrastination I still have both. Downsizing is ongoing at a
slower pace than planned, deadlines come and gone, it's like I'm still working.

I will start posting some reviews of what I have been reading in the SF realm. I'll start with the most recent, which is Alastair Reynold's
    Halcyon Years.

    <snip neat review>

I'm a sucker for SF mysteries, so I liked it a lot.

Glad you're back! And thanks for the tip on a new Reynolds.
