The latest in Stross's long-running series The Laundry Files, finds
most of the original gang back. This includes Bob Howard, now the Eater
of Souls, and his wife the redoubtable Mo, moving into the Senior
Auditor job.

After 60-plus years in power in the U.K., Queen Elizabeth II has
gathered a surplus of mana from believers spread across the British Commonwealth. A plan is put into play to make sure the Queen never
dies, at least completely, to avoid the side effects of the mana
release.

This being a Laundry novel, there are plots and counter plots,
including the Prime Minister and living avatar of His Dread Majesty
N?yar Lat-Hotep, the Black Pharaoh. There is also the Queen's new
physician Dr. Anton Phibes (the movies were unauthorized versions of
real events).

The Queen's situation advances rapidly after a fatal poison is
introduced. This being the Laundry, the climactic action features
over-the-top violence.
