This is another book that I read because it was mentioned in this newsgroup
and when it arrived from thriftbooks I realized that I had read The Mimicking Of Known Successes (also by Malka Older and set in the same universe) when
it was up for a Hugo and didn't like it that much.
But I do like this one... it is the story of an investigator in a post-earth world, living on a platform above a gas giant and faculty at a university,
who goes to another university to investigate some threats. It has mild lesbianism, thoroughly relatable characters, and amusing academic types
that are familiar. I think this is much better structured than _Known Successes_ and has fewer silly Sherlock Holmes references. Recommended. --scott
