The new Harry Potter trend of redrawing Draco Malfoy as a
bratty anime girl has arrived. Here is where the trend
started, why the name stuck, and why some fans do not
    want to drop it.

    ***

Lately my social media feeds have been getting flooded
with art, stories and videos of fan art, stories and
videos of Draco Malfoy gender swapped as a girl.

She has the same white-blond hair. Same Slytherin robe.

Same voice bratty, asking Potter who let him think he was
    a top student.

And some people are calling her Malfoid. Here is what I
have learned about the trend so far.

Malfoid is fan art/fan fiction and not actually a real
character in the Harry Potter universe.

She is not in the books, not in the movies, and not in
    HBO's Harry Potter series.

She is merely a fan character from a trend of artists
who redrew Draco as a teenage girl, usually in an anime
style, and kept the part of him everyone already knows:
the sneer, bratty energy and insults towards Harry Potter.

    Here's one:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Q1WRCkyquQ

Actually I'm kinda liking the "Malfoid" thing. Possibly because:

    1) Ginny is such an insipid love interest.
    2) Enemies-to-lovers is a reliable trope.
    3) Malfoy did not get a good redemption arc in canon. Dumbledore
(already dying) implores Snape to kill him to spare Malfoy from
being a killer, and we don't really ever see Draco deal with that.

Thank you for your youtube link.

Meanwhile, Malfoy's on my mind. Ginny's mentioned near the end of this
"If the ending is already written, does it remain the same in every universe?**PartTwo**" video:

    [Potter] Ginny?

[Malfoy] What did you just call me?

    [Potter] Ginny?

    [Malfoy] Say again?

[Potter] Ginny? Is that ... you?

    <music then lyrics>

    Yeah, yeah, yeah

I want you to love me, love me, love me, love me

Oh baby, love me, love me, love me

I have so far managed not to see the Jack Reacher movies with Tom Cruise because I can't imagine Cruise as the lead character.

I didn't have the same gut reaction to the lead actor in the TV show,
but then didn't finish those anyway. I don't seem to have changed my
mental image of the character, but maybe I'll visualize the actor next
time I read a Reacher novel.

In other and more sf news, all these discussions about the Netflix
    movie made me re-start to listen to /Magician's Nephew/. I think I
never read the books before, and only watched the old TV drama from
the 80s I think. Or were those movies, rather than TV show? Not sure.

Anyway, that book is neat-ish so far, if a bit monotonous in the narr-
ation; but that's kind of normal for children's books.

Yet I'm not sure children have problems with complicated storytelling.

Anyway, that's it for this monologue in rec.arts.sf.written.

Well has anyone considered that changing Malfoy to a girl is
a response to Rowlands militant anti-transgender activities and
    views?

In regards to bliss' question, this person's a plausible progenitor:

    <https://x.com/redteneri>

Pepe the frog appears as an avatar in the associated commentary. It's
probably safe to connect the dots to Groypers, and then to some sort
    of Incel influence.
Malfoy's an idealized female who appreciates the innate Incel
intelligence and attendant psychological problems. Beyond that, your
guess is as good as mine.
The motive behind the creative impulse is irrelevant. Only the story matters to me. Your Mileage May Vary.
