• What Did You Watch? 2024-04-15 (Monday)

On Tax Day (I took care of my taxes a month ago!), I got through very
    little TV:

soaps: DOOL - Mostly Holly/NuTate stuff, with Brady, NuTheresa and
Nicole trying to pour cold water on it. But EJ double-crosses Stefan
(kind of disappointed he is still around - I figured Stefan had been
written out...), and then Brady, so really hoping EJ gets majorly taken
down soon... Meanwhile, Julie continues to ruin Johnny's and Chanel's honeymoon... until Chanel goes missing in the snow! (I still think this
is where Clyde is hiding out.)
I didn't even get to GH yesterday...

Aside from that, later in the evening, I left "Thor: Ragnarok" on as background noise - while chock full of cameos, the movie is just OK.

    What did you watch?

It was okay with Korg being the best part of the movie.

Only thing I managed to watch was TRACKER which was just okay as
described in the previous day's WDYW.

    I watched:

Fallout (Amazon Prime) - The Target" - Episode 2. Episode 1 had three
main characters, "Lucy" (Ella Purnell) a young woman from the Vault
    where a 1950s/1960s style American civilization survived the apocalypse;
"The Ghoul" (Walton Goggins) who was a pre-war famous actor and somehow hundreds of years later he's still alive, more or less; and "Maximus"
(Aaron Moten) who basically stole a mech suit of armor. Episode 2 has
the three characters converging on a small town with each taking an
interest in a mysterious man played by Michael Emerson. I know playing
a mysterious character who knows more than he's letting on is a stretch
for Emerson, but somehow he pulls it off.

"The Head" - Episode 3 - This felt like filler with no real character development or movement, but just stuff happening to fill the running time.

    Hey, thanks for asking!

    NCIS 10,000

The adventures of the NCIS crews in the far future!

No? At least that might’ve been interesting.

A completely pedestrian, and mostly boring case involving revenge REVENGE
on all of NCIS, by the Relative of the big bad from their very first case. (no, Ian, it wasn’t ice queen, and we didn’t get blackadder).

    Booo!

    (Who is the Ice Queen?...)

This was terribly written, and just swimming in big stupid. The evil
villain, who has been plotting revenge REVENGE for 20 years, just started taking shooting lessons, three months ago, and is now a crack sniper,
taking out targets at 1000 yards. Speaking of crack snipers, with the
mystery villain making attacks against the homes of everyone that’s ever been in NCIS or helped NCIS who did they not call to warn? Gibbs!

These attacks take place in the form of fire bombs. You can see from miles away, and yet somehow managed to do no damage whatsoever.

Director Danielle Ruah from NCIS Los Angeles literally phones in her cameo via MTAC. Despite their promise of lots of cameos and publicity releases of Callan posing with the mothership team, most of them were just thrown in as an afterthought via stock footage at the very end. There we finally see Gibbs.

So, this was just archival footage?

(It really seems like Harmon has *retired* retired from acting. It
doesn't seem like he'll show up in anything ever again. Kind of like
    Richard Dean Anderson.)

I’m not sure we saw Ducky. We got my favorite DiNozzo scene.

Did they have Kate?! Did they have Jenny Shephard?!! Did they have
    Vivian Blackadder?!!!

    And
even drop-ins from the very lesser series New Orleans and Perth.

Hopefully with gratuitous Georgina Haig footage!! ;p

But the biggest stupid of the whole thing? There was absolutely no reason whatsoever for the evil bad person to involve NCIS. They weren’t even the target. And if they had left them alone, they would have gotten away with their evil scheme. All of which had been safely set into motion before the episode even began! The baddie could have gone home and watched the whole thing unfold on television, and never even been suspected. But for some reason, instead they took a shot at somebody who wasn’t involved with any of their grievances at all.

Best part was Fornell being the only person left who remembers their first case.

So Fornell was actually in the episode?

Special guest star, the rich techie guy from Bones.

This was so massively underwhelming. I didn’t even bother to watch the previously recorded special about the special. I just flipped over to some BLUE BLOODS reruns. Which were the point in time when Nicki was at her most annoying on her way out and Eddie was at her most annoying on her way in as Nicki‘s annoying replacement. Oh, and they had the most annoying mayor ever from Rizzoli‘s Isles. It was all very annoying. Even Lilith Sternan Crane.

Yeah, I get that the Elon standin (former BONES tech) provided the
attack on the NCIS facility by accident. That one makes sense but as
you say there was no need for trying to keep the NCIS agents busy.
They had nothing to do with the President's security and so wouldn't
have been aware of the significance of the virus even if they found it
before the plane took off. The only reason for the multiple attacks on
NCIS was to provide a reason for their involvement and catching the

I get that writers often need to skip corners in their writing to help
move the story along. When your basic premise is the bad girl does a
bad thing just to help the good guys save the day, that's just a poor
    writer.

There’s actually a line of dialogue when they’re doing the background check on her that says she started taking shooting lessons three months ago. I
would have thought that would disqualify her as a crack sniper not make her suspect. :-)

Also, you think they’d be a difference between taking “shooting lessons” and sniper training! Now the latter would have flagged somebody.

    Yep

Speaking of poor writers, I watched a bunch of NCIS episodes. I’ve never
seen before from season 16 as background noise yesterday. But one stuck out
as being by far the worst episode of the series I’ve ever seen. So much so that I looked to see who wrote it. it wasn’t a name that meant anything to me, except that on her upcoming projects, she’s the executive producer and showrunner of NCIS baby Gibbs. So that’s going to suck even worse than I could’ve possibly thought.
