    The Simpsons
    Notes for 36ABF09 (Stew Lies)

Kind of a misfire. A lot of silly nonsense, and why did the episode
*start* with an entire (nearly) self-contained subplot and its heartstring-tugging conclusion? Did someone forget to weave it through
the rest of the episode (but still remember to tack on a silly future
coda undoing it)? The ska element was random but mostly enjoyable (yet I
echo Bart's sentiment after the unconsciously induced dancing: what the
HELL just happened?); I wonder, though, how this recipe-stealing show
could possibly be legal and also how the entire town managed to get the
recipe to try when the episode hasn't even aired yet.

Another unusual new opening sequence combination (at least it was more
than just the clouds, and had a blackboard and couch gag to enjoy), a
baffling collection of parts, seemingly designed around this ska cover
of the theme. Hmm. Do I interpret the credits to suggest that this cover
    is performed by Hepcat?

    Goof
Tony pronounces scourge so the start sounds like score; it should rhyme
    with urge.

Yesterday was my last day to run errands and do chores before a little vacation time, so, not much:

    soaps: All Mon's ep's.
GH - By being a jerk, Jason blows it, as Drew never makes his offer
to walk away from Willow and instead vows to stick it to all of them,
telling Martin Gray as much afterwards. Martin rejects Tracy Q's offer
to compromise with Drew, as Martin wants revenge!! on Tracy. Brook Lynn
and Lulu have a massive fight which ends with Brook Lynn slapping Lulu,
and then hiring Marco to track down information on Britt!! (the actress
is coming back to the show! I wonder if they'll bring Obrecht back
too...) to get at Lulu. (Sidenote: It occurs to me that this show is
sick with lawyers right now - I think there are now half-a-dozen of them
on GH currently!!) The one thing Lulu got out of the fight is that she
needs to apologize to Gio, so she goes to Gio to do that... Emma reads
Gio in on her plan to take down the professor dude. Josslyn and her
handler continue to try to gather evidence on the professor dude - when
they are caught together by Emma, the handler improvises by planting one
on Joss!! NuJack Brennan is seemingly made uncomfortable when Carly
thanks him for "saving her family" (he stole Carly's daughter away and recruited her as a spy!!). Anna locks Dante and Chase together until
    they make peace.
I also had B&B, Y&R and Beyond the Gates (BtG) on CBS (OTA!) on as background noise while I did chores - the only one I paid any attention
to was Y&R, which is all set up as Victor and the Newmans, and then
Billy & Sally, board the train in France to meet with "Aristotle Dumas". Victor claims he know who "Dumas" really is, but refuses to tell anyone.

And that was essentially it. Otherwise, the TV was on as background
noise while I did chores, etc.

    What did you watch?

The first two episodes of season 4 of 'Snowpiercer'. I recorded the
last season of the show last year but am only now getting around to
watching it. The man who inspired the creation of The Avengers by dying
is now an admiral in charge of some spec ops soldiers breathing black
smoke in sealed suits. They kidnap Our Hero's daughter and kill his
wife after hijacking Snowpiercer so some captive scientists can use it
to create more warm spots on the planet. Their violent methods of
asking for help would seem to indicate dark secrets.

    I watched:

Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) (4K
disc) 2020 DCEU movie. This one follows Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie)
who after breaking up with The Joker finds herself being hunted by
everyone she's every wronged, and that's pretty much the entire Gotham underworld. Ewan McGregor costars as "Black Mask" who is also out to
kill Harley, but offers her protection in exchange for Haley retrieving
a stolen diamond. And along the way, the Birds of Prey are tossed into
the mix. It's an OK to turn your brain off and enjoy the ride flick. I
was surprised this was "R" rating, but the "R" rating definitely helps
by giving an edge to what otherwise would have been too campy.

The Suicide Squad (4K disc) 2021 DCEU movie written and directed by
James Gunn. Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) assembles a new team of super villains to save the planet. Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and Rick
Flagg (Joel Kinnaman) return and are joined by a new team including
Bloodsport (Idris Elba) Peacemaker (John Cena). Overall, great movie,
even better than the first one. And it's loaded with ultra-violence. I watched with a James Gunn commentary. It's a great commentary where he
points out all the cameos and Easter Eggs. One interesting thing he
mentioned was the day execs from Marvel studios showed up on set and
    watched him film.

The Squad walks into a village and straight up murders everyone they see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnyHRjHX_QA

A decent outing. No appearance by any original cast members, but they did mention the miniature Texan.

    Beautiful on location scenery.

A few moments of big stupid. This seems to be another episode where the
evil plans of the villain du jour actually pre-date the escape of magic
from the warehouse and so once again it’s really not part of their mission statement. People were having their memories taken, and it wasn’t really clear at the end if they got them back or not. I loved when during the climactic fight in the beautiful observatory that they told a couple of the assistant librarians to go downstairs and see if they could lower the floor
to distract and thwart the bad guy. Lower the floor? Which might have
been cool if they could, but nothing came of it.

Oh, and the bad guy turned out to be the guy who built the ARK (the A.R.K. Stands for: ARK!)
