    Hey, thanks for asking!

I’ve been watching some old episodes of various incarnations of TO TELL THE TRUTH if they have an interesting guest. Like Chuck Norris when he was a
baby. They had a special effects guy from the THE TOWERING INFERNO, which
made me realize I had never seen that movie except bits and pieces here and there. So I settled in for the long slog because it’s almost 3 hours long! Beautiful in 2.20 aspect ratio which means it’s from the 70 mm on the Plex.

An all Star Cast and dear God is it boring. Ian‘s IMDb entry has an
amazingly long list of stuff that’s wrong. My favorite is when Fireman
Steve McQueen‘s bosses tell him the only way to save the building is to
have a helicopter drop him on top and blow up the water tanks. They also
tell them it’s a suicide mission. So he calls Paul Newman who’s just a couple floors below and asks him to meet him there and help him blow up the tanks without mentioning the suicide mission. So they blow up the tanks
with a delay timer and just walk back down the stairs to wait for the
water. Because they completely forgot it’s a suicide mission.

The trip down the stairs is interesting. McQueen is in a full tinfoil firefighter suit with the headpiece on and Newman is just in shirt sleeves
and sneakers, but he’s got an oxygen mask. They get to a place where the flames are impassible. Newman says to McQueen “you’ll never get through that“ and then gives McQueen a few deep breaths and they just run through
the impassible flames. And then McQueen takes off the fire suit and they continue.

Why is McQueen wearing the fire suit at all if Newman doesn’t need one?

The editing and continuity are terrible with people constantly knowing
stuff they couldn’t possibly know unless they were with George Burns
watching the movie. During the big water tank explosion there’s a guy who does a stunt dive through a window (all the windows in this multi hundred
story building are plain glass) and he does it… twice. Once on fire, once not.

And no time does the fire on the exterior model of the building (they don’t even shoot the fire or explosions in slow motion) have anything whatsoever
to do with the plot and what floors are supposedly burning.

Well, at least now I’ve seen it. I recently watched an even worse Irwin
Allen Paul Newman movie WHEN TIME RAN OUT. So I guess now I’ve seen them
    all.

    What did you watch?

This is a multiday catch up. Over the last few days I watched:

Black Adam (4K disc) 2022 movie set in the DCEU starring Dwayne Johnson
as "Teth-Adam" who in ancient times is granted the powers of "Shazam" by
the Wizard Shazam (Djimon Hounsou)allowing him to become "Black Adam"
Turns out Black Adam isn't the nicest of guys and is imprisoned by the
Wizard. Black Adam is awoken in present day by his oppressed people.
He then starts to kill all the bad guys. This prompts Amanda Waller
(Viola Davis) to send the Justice Society Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Doctor
Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Atom Smasher
*Noah Centineo), to deal with Black Adam. I like that when the Justice Society shows up the locals all immediately side with Black Adam. The
locals point out that while they were being oppressed the Justice
Society stood back and did nothing, but the second they get their own
hero suddenly the Justice Society takes notice and decides to intervene.
It's an OK turn your brain off movie. I particularly like Hawkman and Doctor Fate. But where was the modern day Shazam?

Shazam! Fury of the Gods (4K disc) 2023 movie set in the DCEU starring
Zachary Levi as Shazam and Asher Angel as the barely in the movie Billy Batson. Some ancient gods (Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu) declare war on
humanity and it's up to the Shazam family to save the day. It's OK.

The Flash (4K disc) 2023 movie set in the DCEU starring Ezra Miller as
"The Flash." Flash time travels to change history to prevent his father
from being convicted for the murder of his mother, but the change causes
a totally new timeline where Batman is still played by Mr. Mom. Now
Flash must stop the popular Flash villain, General Zod. Wait isn't Zod
a Superman villain? Whatever. Anyway Flash must not team up with
Batman and Supergirl (Sasha Calle) to stop Zod from destroying the
Earth. I actually like this movie, but it definitely has some major issues.

Blue Beetle (4K disc) 2023 movie set in the DCEU starring Xolo Maridue¤a
as a young man who gets hold of an alien Scarab that attaches itself to
him turning him into The Guyver, I mean Blue Beetle. Victoria Kord
(Susan Sarandon) wants the Scarab for herself and if she has to kill
Xolo to get it, she really doesn't have a problem with that. This is a
fun movie. And the Beetle's grandmother stole the movie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qm9BGd7n7I4

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (4K disc) 2023 movie set in the DCEU
starring Jason Momoa as Lobo, I mean Aquaman. Aquaman drives around on
his motorcycle and does the haka dance. Are we sure he's not playing
Lobo? Anyway, Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) returns to try and
kill Aquaman which forces Lobo, I mean Aquaman to team up with his half brother Orm (Patrick Wilson) to save the day. The movie has issues, but
it's watchable. It's just annoying going in and being aware of all the
behind the scenes issues. For example, the movie originally had Batman,
all the scenes were filmed, then they decided to edit him out of the
movie. And as far as I can tell, they replaced Batman with a CGI
octopus. And I just noticed WB released 4 DCEU movies in the same year,
then had the nerve to complain about low box office returns.

The Batman (4K disc) 2022 movie not set in the DCEU starring Robert
Pattinson as The Batman. The Batman investigates a serial killer (Paul
Dano) who leaves riddles at the crime scene and runs into a crime boss
that sort of resembles a Penguin (Colin Farrell). Along the way he gets
help from a Cat Burglar (Zo‰ Kravitz).

Murderbot (AppleTV+) "Complementary Species" - Murderbot tries to keep
his humans safe, but his humans don't trust him and are constantly
worried Murderbot is going to murder them. Those humans clearly have
trust issues. I mean would a killer cyborg that calls himself Murderbot
    hurt anyone?

28 Years later (theatrical) Alex Garland once again writes with Danny
Boyle returning to direct this sequel to 28 Days later which takes
place, 28 years after the first movie. England has been quarantined by
the rest of the world. Everywhere else is virus free, but England is a wasteland full of rage zombies, which for whatever reason don't attack
each other, and are now breeding. There are survivors living in
isolated villages. The movie follows a young boy (Alfie Williams) who
along with his father (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) leave their village to find supplies. And along the way, you're not going to believe this, but they encounter infected people who try to kill them. Who could have saw that coming? But that's just the first half of the movie. The second half involves the young boy leaving the village again for reasons I won't
spoil. Overall it's an OK movie. It's far closer to the first movie,
than the second one. But that's probably intentional given the original writer and director came back. This is also part one of two. A sequel
is already filmed and will be released next year. This movie doesn't so
much end on a cliffhanger, as it just sort of stops at the point where
    part 2 will continue.

It's unclear. Both Keaton and Affleck are referenced as filming scenes.
This is part of the behind the scenes nonsense that was taking place
where WB couldn't make up their mind if they wanted to go forward with
Keaton or Affleck. They filmed an entire Batgirl movie using Keaton,
then scrapped it. My guess is it would have been Keaton. Don't even
ask about the ending of The Flash and how that affects who would be
Batman going forward. The whole thing was a mess being played out in
front of the audience. Even now, the Batman shuffle is still having
ripple affects with it being up in the air if Robert Pattinson's Batman
will be the new Batman in Gunn's rebooted universe or not. As of now,
it's not Pattinson, but Gunn has also said he's open to the idea.

It certainly has an ending that would be harder to pull off (or at
least more expensive) than the live action Flashpoint.

I'm fine either way but I see no reason why Gunn needs to change up

It's unclear. Both Keaton and Affleck are referenced as filming scenes.
This is part of the behind the scenes nonsense that was taking place
where WB couldn't make up their mind if they wanted to go forward with
Keaton or Affleck. They filmed an entire Batgirl movie using Keaton,
then scrapped it. My guess is it would have been Keaton. Don't even

Batman going forward. The whole thing was a mess being played out in

Robert Pattinson is playing Batman in "The Batman Part II," which is
scheduled for release in October 2027, according to Deadline. The film
will also feature Andy Serkis as Alfred and Jeffrey Wright as
    Commissioner Gordon.

The Sensurround wasn't all that impressive. They placed a couple of
large speakers in the auditorium and cranked up the base. You were
supposed to feel vibration synced with an earthquake tremor on screen,
but you didn't feel much. In very old theaters, it accelerated plaster crumbling and they couldn't use it.

I am not a big fan of Irwin Allen disaster movies like The Towering Inferno
but they typically had John Williams scores, so that's something. Irwin
Allen had no credit on Earthquake. John Williams was the composer on Earthquake.

For a disaster movie, Earthquake had an absurd amount of melodrama
especially with the Ava Gardner character.

Obviously they were supposed to during the jackhammer sequence. There was

Then I saw BATTLESTAR GALACTICA in the worst theater in town, the Cine
Crappy. It ran an extremely audible rumble constantly through the entire

Well, at least now I've seen it. I recently watched an even worse Irwin
Allen Paul Newman movie WHEN TIME RAN OUT.

    I don't think I've seen this before.

Yes. He typically composed music for Irwin Allen, especially the tv
series like Land of the Giants and Lost in Space and The Time Tunnel.

Other movies were The Poseidon Adventure. What am I forgetting?

I don't think I knew this. I have two different two-CD sets of John
Williams music. I just double checked, and none of that is on either set. >>

I’ve lost track, sorry. What John Williams music don’t you have?

Anything Irwin Allen or TV related.
The sets I have are the popular scores, Spielberg, Superman, Star Wars,
etc. One of them is Greatest Hits 1969 - 1999 and yet, nothing from
Irwin Allen. Maybe it's a writes thing. Perhaps Irwin Allen owns the
rights to the music and won't let others sale it?

Probably the most interesting show in that genre I've seen was the
late 1960s episode of CBC's Front Page Challenge where the hidden
guest was Alexandr Kerensky who was leader of the Russian government
for the year (nearly) between Czar Nicholas and Lenin.

The format was similar to TTTT but the hidden guest was up on a
lectern behind the panel and they had one minute each to ask questions
and from the answers determine who it was. They didn't figure out it
was Kerensky but the whole panel knew who he was though at least 2 of
them were surprised he was still alive 50+ years later. (He actually
died in 1970 in his late 80s.)
