Welcome to the panic button everyone. I'm Nina. Today we're reacting to Dylan Mulaney.
Uh so I saw this post on Axe today and it said in Dylan Mulvaney's autobiography, he
says he kissed a man in a dimly lit dance club. He then revealed his true sex to the
man who was unhappy that he'd been tricked. Angered by this, Mulaney boasts that this
drove him to kiss several other men without their informed consent. Now, I don't know
if any of you have read Dylan Mulaney's autobiography, but I haven't. So, we're going
to get into the story and uh we're going to read a little bit and see what this is all

I just listened to this. In many circumstances I wouldn't believe this
story -- Mulvaney doesn't pass -- but he says it was dark and the man
    was pretty drunk.

    I watched more ST:TOS.

One was "This Side of Paradise," in which human colonists live in a
symbiotic relationship with plants which absorb deadly radiation and
send their happiness-generating spores into the humans. Kirk doesn't
like it, but I couldn't help noticing that nobody ever says what's wrong
with this system. The spores keep them in perfect health and happiness,
and this is bad because... um....

Kirk says humans "aren't meant to" have easy lives. Says who? Comfort-
seekers have always outnumbered the restless minority by a considerable margin. He's sure he knows best, though, so he sets out to manipulate
everyone into getting angry, which kills the spores. When the colony
leader is de-spored, he says, "We've done nothing. We wanted to turn
    this planet into a garden."

"It *IS* a garden," I howled out loud, gesturing at the Eden on my
screen. Why fix what isn't broken? Come to think of it, humanity has
been offered paradise several times, and Kirk keeps screwing it up.

I also watched "Amok Time," in which Spock goes into a mating frenzy.
They really had no idea what they were doing with his species. We say
modern ST writers don't get Vulcans, but TBH they've never made much
sense. Leonard Nimoy does some pretty good acting in this one.

They did! They had fields and orchards, and they worked them. The spores didn't feed them, just kept them perfectly healthy and content.

They also had nice homes and common buidings. One wonders what else he'd expected to build in only three years.

I want to move there. :D

I can see a man who's drunk off his ass in a dark bar mistaking Dylan for a woman, but I call bullshit on his claims thbat he did that every night. The fact that he and his alleged friends got off on tricking men into thinking he was a woman and _bragging_ about it tells a _lot_ about the typoe of poerson he is (no big surprise).

I always thought this was their take on the Lotus-Eaters.

Kirk says humans "aren't meant to" have easy lives. Says who?

Take a look at life in modern America. We've become lazy and decadent.

Comfort-seekers have always outnumbered the restless minority by a >considerable margin. The spored colonists weren't lazy and decadent, though. With the spores,
they were happy and also getting their work done. As shown in the
episode, there don't seem to be any drawbacks.

No, didn't notice that. What is it?

I really liked the distance-shot drawing of the wedding/combat site. It
was beautiful. Today it would probably be some CGI or even AI slop, but
back then, someone drew it with care.

In the scene in which Spock and Kirk are fighting, when Kirk takes a break
and Bones injects him with steroids(?), you can see Leonard Nemoy in
the background leaning against a wall and grinning.

    Why would that be changed?

Because it was done by incompetent hacks, anybody who just happened to be
in the office that day. In the case of Vulcan, they decided to make it
match the different depictions from the later, terrible spin off shows.
