House of Cards Star Robin Wright Leaves the US,
Says 'America is a S-show'

Robin Wright recently opened up about why she left the U.S.
and moved to the U.K. in an interview. She didn't touch on

also shared how her life feels different in the U.K.

In a new profile with The Times U.K., Wright shared the
reasons for her move from the U.S. to the U.K. She said,
"America is a s***show." Revealing the reasons why she
prefers the U.K., she added, "I love being in this country.

She elaborated on how different her life is in the country
she now calls home compared to America. Instead of waking up
to the noise of neighbors' home renovations, she wakes up to
the sound of chirping birds. "Everyone's building a huge
house, and I'm just done with all that - I love the quiet.
And I've met my person. Finally," she explained.

For those unfamiliar, Wright is currently dating architect
Henry Smith, and they live in a rented home in the English
seaside. In the same interview, she revealed that she met her
partner at the bar. Detailing their first encounter, she
shared, "He goes, 'No, it's not my dog, it's his dog. And
Henry was standing at the bar, 6ft 2in, and he put his pint
down, came over to me and grabbed my shoulders. He goes, 'Who
the f- are you?' And I said, 'Who the f- areayou?' And that
was it."

Wright is not the first celebrity to move to another nation;
many others have also left the country for either personal or
political reasons. They are Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de
Rossi, Rosie O'Donnell, Courtney Love, and Eva Longoria, among

If memory serves, Robin Wright was once married to Sean Penn, as
hardcore a Marxist as you're likely to find. Even if she didn't fully
share his views, I don't imagine she completely despised them either.
It's not hard to image her being discontented with the US under Trump.

Two things seem obvious here. Her experience being well off and well
known is going to be different from the average person. She's also
going to be new to living in the country and as such will have a
different experience from someone who has grown up there with
everything seeming bright and new and the cracks not being noticed.
It takes time before one begins to see the downsides to some place new
that weren't obvious at first glance.

Well, she does seem to be describing life in a small village. Head
into any small town and there tends to be little traffic. She could
have had the same experience in the USA, but given a husband that is
from the UK I expect that played a part in the decision to move there.

Of course humanitarianism -- or even basic human decency toward

Parliament cannot be ignored by the government. It IS the government,
not a separate legislative branch. It is simultaneously the legislature
and the government.

Numerous times in English history, the Crown totally ignored Parliament.
This led to civil wars. Eventually, enough power was taken away from the
Crown that it's little more than a figurehead as head of state.

The King or Queen is an absolute monarch within the Royal Family but
does not rule over anybody else.

How did you not learn any of this in school?
