I haven't watched much. I got to my intended destination and found
    it uninhabitable,

Do you mean "comdememned" or "unfurnished"?

The former. The kitchen floor had been absorbing water for months,
    and it's unstable and dangerous to walk on. One toilet is broken;
the other is revolting and has to be filled with water by hand.
There are fruitflies, spiders, and mice in the walls. The smell
of mold, rot, and mouse poop is unbelievable. There are piles and
piles of books and clothes everywhere, with just some paths among
the piles. There are thick spiderwebs in every corner.

She's been living this way for God knows how many months, and
she didn't realize anything was horribly wrong. She thinks she
just got behind on her chores. Meanwhile, her neighbors were
wondering if she had any children they could contact, while her
idiot sister knew exactly where to find me and apparently couldn't
be bothered. I will have some words for her when I find time.

That's scary to think she didn't recognize the issue. It's one thing
to choose to live that way but another when you can't even recognize
the issues. The books is a common issue, but the other things.. Ugh.

We're in a hotel now, and a renovator has viewed the property.
It can probably be salvaged, though it'll be expensive. He's
willing to rush dealing with the water leak (and I'm extremely
grateful), but fixing all that will take a while. I'll need
to find us some transitional housing while that happens.

Good to hear that he can rush dealing with the water as it is the true
home killer. The rest can be dealt with but water coming in to the
home will kill it faster than almost anything else. I saw what it did
with my family's old house that us kids grew up in, when there was no
one taking care of it and a leak happened in the roof. Didn't take
that long before the roof in that area caved in.

I'm looking forward to getting back to vegging in front of
    a TV. :)

Eek! I thought you were moving with her to a new place. After Dad
moved into assisted living but still had the house, he kept hiding
his soiled clothes and then forgetting about them, resulting in
    flies within the house.

I'm sorry you had to deal with this and I'm sorry your aunt was
    willfully neglecting your mother.

What did the contractor identify as the source of the water
    infiltration?

Will you take your mother back home with you? Clearly she cannot live on
    her own alone.

    Thank you.

It's her old fridge. She has always known where the leak was,
but couldn't figure out what to do about it. She bought a
new fridge, and it was delivered, but the store was unable
to remove her old one as they would usually do.

Apparently they said the old fridge was too dirty for them
to take. I never knew that was possible, but it is in fact
disgusting. I saw bug eggs inside. That must have been at
least a few months ago, judging by the extent of the water
damage, so she's been unable to manage for some time.

Will you take your mother back home with you? Clearly she cannot live on

Well, see, I don't have one. My employment situation has
been dire for some time. I'm clawing my way up, but I
    no longer own a home.

I'm trying to get a clearer picture of her finances, to
see what we can afford together.

Well, that's definitely what's happening now. We can't stay in this
    hotel forever.

Oh, that sounds bad. Sorry you had to deal with that. I guess he
was trying to preserve his dignity, in a way.

Ok. I wasn't sure you were moving to be with her.

Best wishes on getting this resolved before you both run out of cash,
