    Wow, that's pretty awful.

Wasn't his comic dropped from most places due to some earlier scandal?
Was he still putting out material recently?

In its heyday, Dilbert was truly hilarious and also made thoughtful
points about senseless workplace culture. Whatever personal failings its creator may have had, he made something classic. RIP, Scott Adams.

Well, there was a little more than that. He kept referring to Donald
Trump as a "wizard" and "master hypnotist." He also publicly sided with
the cops when six heavily armed officers shot and killed an unarmed
tourist who was literally crawling on the ground begging them not to
shoot. There was also the incident when he used a fake name to try to
convince detractors that Scott was *so* smart that the detractors
probably just weren't able to comprehend -- that was quite a while ago,
    but the legend never died.

He did seem a little loopy. He wasn't just conservative. Dilbert was a
great comic, though, and The Dilbert Principle was a very amusing book, especially to anyone involved in tech in the late 90s.

I agree with you. Scott Adams was important and worthy of celebration
because he created a great newspaper comic strip. I can set aside the self-inflicted reputational harm, especially because it came decades
    later.

I think it was when he came out of the closet as publicly conservative. That >was all it took.

He used to say he was farther to the left than Bernie Sanders. When he started supporting Trump is when they started bashing him.

His controversy stemmed from discussing a Rasmussen Reports poll on his
youtube show that found 53% of Black Americans agreed with the statement
"It's OK to be white" (a phrase associated with white supremacist rhetoric
by groups like the Anti-Defamation League). He interpreted the results to
mean that nearly half of Black respondents were not "OK with white people,"
and he described Black people as a "hate group." He further advised white people to "get the hell away from Black people" and avoid living in neighborhoods with high Black populations.

Controversial Dilbert cartoonist Scott Adams dies aged 68
    ---------------------------------------------------------
Scott Adams, the US cartoonist who wrote and illustrated the
comic strip Dilbert, has died of cancer at the age of 68.

His ex-wife Shelly Miles announced his death on Tuesday
during a live stream of his podcast, Real Coffee with Scott
    Adams.

The satirical cartoon strip - about a competent but
frustrated engineer and his dysfunctional workplace
environment - was first published in 1989, and went on to
feature in more than 2,000 newspapers in 65 countries.

The character also later appeared in books, an animated TV
series and video game. But in 2023, his comic strip was
cancelled by newspapers including the Washington Post after
Adams was accused of making racist comments about black
    people.

Adams called black Americans a "hate group" and suggested
white Americans "get the hell away from black people," in
response to a conservative organisation's poll purporting to
show that many African-Americans do not think it is OK to be
    white.

He later defended his comments and said that he had been
using hyperbole to make a point, adding that he disavowed
racists and that media reports had ignored the context of
    his comments.

US President Donald Trump paid tribute to Adams on Truth
Social, following news of his death: "Sadly, the Great
Influencer, Scott Adams, has passed away. He was a fantastic
guy, who liked and respected me when it wasn't fashionable
    to do so.

"He bravely fought a long battle against a terrible disease,"
    Trump wrote.

A tearful Shelly told listeners at the start of Adams's
latest podcast on Tuesday: "He's not with us anymore."

She then read out a posthumous message from Adams: "I had an
amazing life, I gave it everything I had.

"If I got any benefits from my work, I'm asking that you pay
it forward as best as you can. That's the legacy I want.

"Be useful, and please know I loved you all to the very end."

In his later career, Adams - also a trained hypnotist - wrote
self-help books including How to Fail at Almost Everything and
Still Win Big, Win Bigly, Loserthink and Reframe Your Brain.

He had been receiving end-of-life care at his home after the
prostate cancer, which he first revealed he had in May 2025,
    spread to his bones.

On 1 January this year, he told listeners that the chances of
him making a recovery were unlikely.

"I'll give you any updates if that changes, but it won't," he
    said.

"So there's no chance that I'll get my feeling back in my legs,
and I've got some ongoing heart failure, which is making it
difficult to breathe sometimes during the day.

"However, you should prepare yourself that January will probably
be a month of transition, one way or another."

Fine. He went compltely nuts and said vile things. It doesn't chnge the
fact that Dilbert was high quality pop culture and satire.

Yes it was dropped after he questioned that "6 million" number (you know

Weird how it's okay to openly supportive segregation when you're black, but it's racist to support it when you're white.

It's the "American way" to keep churning something out until everybody
is thoroughly sick of it and not bothering to watch / read / listen to
it (and then make some more just to make sure) ... just look at The
    Simpsons. :-\

Then there's the UK comedy "Ghosts" which ran for 5 seasons, 34
episodes in total before the makers chose to end it. The US decided to
copy it, but the US version has been renewed for a sixth season and
    already has 82 episodes.

Also the numerous spin-off of shows like Stargate, Star Trek, NCIS, Law
    & Order, etc.

If Star Wars had been a UK project, it probaly would have ended with
the Original Trilogy. Because it's a US project, it has had two more
trilogies and lots of spin-off movies and TV shows, with more planned (including yet another trilogy "continuing the story after Episode IX", despite saying that was the end of the Saga).

it's the period of around 1995 - 1999 that are gold!

That's completely normal for comics. My father once told me that Blondie
was funny when it started out; I was startled. I once read some very old
Family Circus comics, and it was a very different strip in which their
neglectful father drank a lot and ogled hotties while the kids did some
    genuinely bad things.

I respect the creator of Calvin and Hobbes for ending it before it began
    to stink.

It's the "American way" to keep churning something out until everybody
is thoroughly sick of it and not bothering to watch / read / listen to
it (and then make some more just to make sure) ... just look at The
    Simpsons. :-\

Same thing with the "Peanuts" strip. It was funny at first but it went
to total crap in its last decades.
