The Hillside Strangler [new] (10 pm, MGM+)

In the late 1970s Los Angeles became the serial killer capital of the
world, and none terrorized the city more than a phantom who struck
without warning, abducting, raping, and murdering ten young women and
leaving their bodies displayed on the hillsides like grim trophies. The Hillside Strangler is a gripping four part investigation of the murders, manhunt, and media circus that followed, ending in the longest criminal
trial in US history. The bizarre and haunting case unfolds through
accounts from law enforcement, survivors, journalists, never-before-seen archival recordings, and for the first time, the voice of convicted
killer Kenneth Bianchi himself. Anchored by the dueling perspectives of legendary detective Frank Salerno and Bianchi, the series pits Bianchi's claims of psychological torture at the hands of the legal system against
those who accuse him of being the most calculating, manipulative killer they've ever encountered. Limited series; four episodes.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms [new] (10 pm, HBO)

Martin's novella series "Tales of Dunk and Egg." Peter Claffey plays the novice hedge knight Ser Duncan the Tall (aka "Dunk"), while Dexter Sol
Ansell plays his squire, "Egg"?who is actually a Targaryen prince?as the series follows their relatively low-stakes adventures through Westeros
nearly a century before the events of Game of Thrones. Tonight brings
the first of just six half-hour episodes (running through Feb. 22),
which adapt "The Hedge Knight," the first book in the series. That
leaves two more novellas to adapt in potential future seasons?and one of
those extra seasons has already been greenlit and will air in 2027.

Taskaree: The Smuggler's Web˙˙˙˙ [new; complete season 1]˙˙˙ (3:01 am, Netflix)

Is that anything like "Smuggler's Blues"?...

While that is clever host casting, it still isn't enough to get me to
    watch this.

    ˙˙˙˙Streaming:

Agatha Christie's Seven Dials˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙ [new; complete limited series]
    ˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙ (3:01 am, Netflix)

Adapted from Agatha Christie's The Seven Dials Mystery by Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall, this three-part series is set in 1925 England
    and stars Mia McKenna-Bruce

She's cute. Though it's disturbing that I am pretty sure she was just a
kid in 2009's "The Fourth Kind"...

as the young sleuth Lady Eileen "Bundle"
Brent alongside Martin Freeman and Helena Bonham Carter.

    Ponies˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙ [new]˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙ (3:01 am, Peacock)

Emilia Clarke and Haley Lu Richardson play secretaries in the American Embassy in 1977 Moscow?considered Persons of No Interest, or "PONIES"?

    Flight Attendant).

Something I would probably watch if I had excess time to watch TV.

    Star Trek: Starfleet Academy˙˙˙˙˙˙˙ [new]˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙ (3:01 am, Paramount+)

In development off and on for at least seven years, Starfleet Academy follows a new class of cadets at the elite San Francisco institution as
they train to become Starfleet officers and practice their skills aboard
a working starship, the USS Athena. Oddly, the series is set in the very distant future: specifically, in the post-apocalyptic 32nd century
timeline first introduced in Star Trek: Discovery, which makes this
Academy class the first in over a century. While the actors playing the cadets will be mostly new-ish faces, the cast also includes Holly
Hunter, Paul Giamatti, Gina Yashere, and Tatiana Maslany, plus Stephen Colbert as the voice of one of the school's digital deans. You'll also
see several familiar characters, including Tig Notaro's Discovery
character Jett Reno, Oded Fehr's Admiral Vance, and Robert Picardo's holographic doctor (who first appeared in Star Trek: Voyager). Ten
episodes; two stream today, followed by weekly single-episode releases through March 12. Renewed for season 2.

    This does sound dreadful...

    ˙˙˙˙Broadcast and cable:

    Animal Control˙˙˙˙˙˙ (season 4 premiere)˙˙˙˙˙˙˙ (9 pm, Fox)

Ah, yes - the Fox series whose previous seasons are always unavailable
    on streaming!

I wonder if that is true on the Fox One app too...

    Going Dutch˙˙˙˙˙˙˙ (season 2 premiere)˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙ (9:30 pm, Fox)

    Ditto, I am sure.

    for "twinless twins." 1h 40m.

    https://www.imdb.com/title/tt31322753/
    [rating 7.4]

I saw Dylan O'Brien play Dan Aykroyd in the 2024 "Saturday Night" movie
at my brother's and I couldn't even tell it was O'Brien. He was
    effectively convincing.

LOL: Last One Laughing Quebec˙˙˙˙˙˙ (season 4 premiere)˙˙˙˙˙˙ (3:01 am, Prime Video)

    Huh?!

    The Rip˙˙˙˙˙ (movie)˙˙˙˙ (3:01 am, Netflix)

The latest Matt Damon-Ben Affleck team-up. The straight-to-Netflix crime thriller...

Well, that never comes off sounding promising!!

in cash in a stash house but have differing opinions on what to do about
it. Also stars Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Catalina Sandino Moreno and Kyle Chandler; 2h 13m.

The horror Reddit basically trashed this movie in comparison to the
    first one.

by the enemy and must battle for their lives against a giant hungry
    great white shark. 1h 27m.

This is one of those things that could be surprisingly good, or just
bad... The no-name cast here doesn't fill me with confidence.

    ˙˙˙˙Broadcast and cable:

    Don't Trust the Quiet Ones˙˙˙˙˙˙ (movie)˙˙˙˙˙˙˙ (8 pm, LMN)

Things turn personal when a recently divorced mom learns her daughter's favorite influencer was murdered right after a meet and greet at the
local mall. After reporting some suspicious behavior she saw at the
event, the mom realizes she's put her own family in danger. Feeling
their lives are in peril, she finds comfort in her ex, finally feeling
safe as he whisks them to a beautiful, snowy cabin upstate. But the
danger may be closer to home than she ever thought possible. Sasha
Barry, Maya Misaljevic, and Dennis Andres star. [Apparently titled "Body
of Influence" in a December press release from LMN., per The Futon Critic.]

I Am Mary Jo Buttafuoco˙˙˙˙ (movie)˙˙˙˙˙˙˙ (8 pm, Lifetime Channel)

In May 1992, outside her Long Island home, Mary Jo Buttafuoco (Chloe
    Lanier)

Cool. Glad she's still working. Though I wish she would return to GH, especially considering that her character could team up with her
    now-EVOL!1! twin sister Willow.

was shot in the head by 17-year-old Amy Fisher (Maddy Hillis) -

I was wondering who that was in the ads!!

the mistress of her husband, Joey Buttafuoco (Dillon Casey). As tabloids sensationalized the scandal and dubbed Fisher the "Long Island Lolita,"
Mary Jo lay in the hospital fighting for her life. This powerful
installment of Lifetime's I Am franchise reveals why Mary Jo and Joey remained married for seven years after the shooting, the lasting
physical and emotional impact of the bullet that remains lodged in her
head, and how she has found resilience and peace amid unimaginable
trauma. Mary Jo Buttafuoco narrates. Not on IMDb as of Saturday night.

Yep, I have been looking for it. But it's still not on IMDb.

I will watch this for Lanier (and Hillis), but I won't like it...

Love on the Amazon˙˙˙˙˙˙˙ (movie)˙˙˙˙˙˙ (8 pm, Hallmark Channel)

Claire travels to Brazil and hires Danny, a riverboat captain, to help
her deliver an important message for her sister Amelia, a marine
biologist studying pink dolphins on the Amazon River. Stars Jaicy Elliot
    and Rafael de la Fuente.

    Oh, Gawd, no.

The Night She Disappeared˙˙˙˙˙˙ (movie)˙˙˙˙˙˙˙ (8 pm, Lifetime Channel)

After her teenage daughter vanishes after sneaking out of the house,
single mother Gene becomes obsessed with a local urban legend about
teens disappearing after a dangerous initiation ritual. But as she
delves further into the urban legend, she uncovers that a fire tower on
the outskirts of town is connected to a sinister killer who already has
Gene in the crosshairs. Rachel Sellan and Chris Violette star. Not on
    IMDb as of Saturday night.

    https://www.mylifetime.com/movies/the-night-she-disappeared

And, again, a no-name cast (though I recognize Sellan from other stuff,
but it looks like she's been mostly a 'bit player' before now...).

    The Hillside Strangler˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙ [new]˙˙˙˙˙˙ (10 pm, MGM+)

In the late 1970s Los Angeles became the serial killer capital of the
world, and none terrorized the city more than a phantom who struck
without warning, abducting, raping, and murdering ten young women and leaving their bodies displayed on the hillsides like grim trophies. The Hillside Strangler is a gripping four part investigation of the murders, manhunt, and media circus that followed, ending in the longest criminal trial in US history. The bizarre and haunting case unfolds through
accounts from law enforcement, survivors, journalists, never-before-seen archival recordings, and for the first time, the voice of convicted
killer Kenneth Bianchi himself. Anchored by the dueling perspectives of legendary detective Frank Salerno and Bianchi, the series pits Bianchi's claims of psychological torture at the hands of the legal system against those who accuse him of being the most calculating, manipulative killer they've ever encountered. Limited series; four episodes.

I am guessing this is a doc?...

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙ [new]˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙ (10 pm, HBO)

HBO's second Game of Thrones spinoff (following House of the Dragon, expected to return this summer) is a prequel adapted from George R.R. Martin's novella series "Tales of Dunk and Egg." Peter Claffey plays the novice hedge knight Ser Duncan the Tall (aka "Dunk"), while Dexter Sol Ansell plays his squire, "Egg"?who is actually a Targaryen prince?as the series follows their relatively low-stakes adventures through Westeros nearly a century before the events of Game of Thrones. Tonight brings
the first of just six half-hour episodes (running through Feb. 22),
which adapt "The Hedge Knight," the first book in the series.

30-min episodes is a low investment - I will likely get to this in late
    Feb. or early March.

    That
leaves two more novellas to adapt in potential future seasons?and one of those extra seasons has already been greenlit and will air in 2027.

That is a *ridiculously* long wait for a series with only 30-minute
    episodes.

If you want to see how streaming is *killing* series television, you
don't need to look any further than this, "House of the Dragon" and
    "Stranger Things"...

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sItUCKJQLTU

    https://www.imdb.com/title/tt27497448/

    (end)

This week actually looks OK, save for the LMN and Lifetime flicks with zero-profile headliners...
