• What Did You Watch? 2026-02-14 (Saturday)

From The True Melissa@3:633/10 to All on Sun Feb 15 11:16:34 2026
On Valentine's Day, I watched "I Made A Stone Age Arrow (It?s Lethal),"
    from North 02.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=kovGNylFeIc&list=TLPQMTIwMjIwMjaQla4sJrlH4A&index=15

The arrow he replicated was likely used for warfare, although he tests
it only with fake hunting. Murder, even fake murder, wouldn't go over
well with the algorithms. I think I liked the Internet better before
creators had to accommodate things like that, but here we are.

My greatest disappointment is that North now has a corporate sponsor. I
get it, though. The slop is killing the real channels, and his views are declining with everyone else's. It was a good video, livelier than his
usual. He always seems to enjoy his field tests.

I also watched more reruns before sleeping. That's one of my favorite
parts of the day, which probably says something about my life. :-)

I also watched "Let's Talk; Most Complete Homo Habilis Skeleton Found,
Human Or Not?" from History with Kayleigh.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=ot8fbHOQI6U&list=TLPQMTQwMjIwMjYws8mLdL8LyQ&index=5&pp=iAQBsAgC

This was another livestream replay. I enjoyed the other one, so I
thought I'd try this. Kayleigh weighs in on the old question of whether
homo habilis counts as human. These aren't worth watching with close attention, but they're good to half-watch while doing something else.

    On Valentine's Day I watched:

My Demon Lover (blu-ray) 1987 comedy starring Scott Valentine as a man
cursed to turn into a horny demon, whenever he gets horny. He meets and
falls for a ditzy woman (Michele Little) who has a habit of picking the
wrong guy. Wackiness ensues. This is one of those movies that was on
cable all the time when I was kid, then disappeared into obscurity.
It's not that great, but the nostalgia factor is pretty high.

Warm Bodies (4K disc) 2013 zombie comedy starring Nicholas Hoult as a
zombie who slowly regains his memories and falls in love with a girl
whose boyfriend's brains he ate earlier in the movie. Well at least
with the boyfriend now out of the way, the two might have a chance. It
    was mostly background noise.

My Bloody Valentine 3D (3D blu-ray) When they put 3D in the title, you
*know* the 3D is going to be gratuitous! Anyway, this is a 2009 remake
of a 1981 movie of the same name. I'm pretty sure I saw the 1981
version once, but I have no memory of it. This version stars Jensen
Ackles as the owner of a mine in a small town where the people are being murdered by a miner with a pick axe. This was not good. The plot made
little sense, and, I want to say this without spoilers, let's just say
there was a less than reliable narrator. And now that I think about it,
I'm not sure if they ever even bothered to reveal a motive for the
murders. That being said, the 3D sure was gratuitous with lots of in
your face 3D scenes. And for no reason I can think of other than
because they could, there is an extended nude scene with a woman walking
/ running around for a good 5 minutes with no clothes on and that's
before the killer shows up to chase her around with the pick axe. And
while all the other kill scenes lasted a few seconds of instant out of
the frame murder, that particular kill for whatever reason took several minutes of her running around before she finally got caught. It almost distracted from the movie not being any good.

It's beyond ridiculous. YouTube's rules are so far beyond what even the broadcast networks prohibited during the height of their infamous 1950s sensitivity. There are whole lexicons of made-up words that have been
developed so that people can talk about the forbidden topics without
triggering the censorship algorithm, like "unalived" instead of "killed". Pedophiles are referred to as PDF files. And all the names of drugs have been forbidden, so people have to figure out alternate names for meth, heroin, pot, etc.

Then there are the accounts, like Paul Joseph Watson's "Modernity" that just live with the demonetization of every video he makes, since literally everything he talks about-- the fall of Europe to Muslim colonization-- is forbidden. He sells hats and t-shirts and does other things to make money off his content.

LOL. I knew about people being unalived or pew pew but hadn't realized
why some people talked about PDF files. I only started seeing it
recently but I get why people started using it. It's crazy how Youtube
will demonitize a video for using one of the 'forbidden' words
regardless of why it's being used. I could get it if someone was
advocating for suicide but covering the news of a suicide or talking
about how to prevent it shouldn't result in demonitization.

Then there are the accounts, like Paul Joseph Watson's "Modernity" that just >live with the demonetization of every video he makes, since literally >everything he talks about-- the fall of Europe to Muslim colonization-- is >forbidden. Yes, I've seen some people decide to just take the hit because they
thought it was important enough to use the real terms for some limited
    amount of their videos.

I'm not sure. But I think maybe not.

I do not believe this was shot in 3D so it would have had to be
converted to 3D for both the theater and home video. I know in the
theater it used real 3D (not anaglyph) but the first blu-ray release
used the old anaglyph red/blue glasses so this is a conversion to the
modern home video 3D format that they have in theaters today.

Also, I think the studio releasing the disc may handle the 3D conversion
for home media, and that's not necessarily the same studio that released
    it in theaters.

Here is part of a review that discusses it:

"...My Bloody Valentine 3D blows its anaglyph predecessor out of the
water, and in terms of raw 3D capabilities as compared to other Blu-ray
3D releases both live-action and animated, it falls somewhere in the
middle of the pack. And now onto the more comprehensive review. My
Bloody Valentine 3D is quite possibly the most frustrating full HD 3D
release yet. Not because it's necessarily poor -- it's worlds better
than the German release of Clash of the Titans -- but because it
fluctuates between awesome and dull with most every scene. Lengthy and mesmerizingly deep imagery transports viewers to the sleepy mining town
in some scenes, while the image falls somewhat flat in others. The
definition of the 3D imagery is seamless here, but it's accompanied by ridiculously heavy ghosting there. My Bloody Valentine 3D is a film of
visual contrasts; the dark mine scenes and various nighttime segments
offer far less in the way of depth and detailing as compared to the
brighter daytime scenes. The 3D effects work in the same way, with the
image looking almost seamless by day and far more sloppy and prone to
    ghosting at night..."

For comparison, this is from the review of the review of the just
released Friday the 13th part 3 3D disc which has had multiple 3D
    releases from different studios:

"Released on 3D Blu-ray by Turbine Media, Friday the 13th Part 3 3D is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 MVC encoded high- definition in the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1 widescreen. The high-definition
presentation is exceptional on the release. The transfer appears
naturally filmic and the fine film grain adds a lot to the experience.
The old-school cinematography and visuals are well-reproduced on the
    release.

The 3D presentation is outstanding and provides so much creativity to
Friday the 13th Part 3. The original 3D Blu-ray release by Shout Factory
was one met with a myriad of criticisms by 3D fans for having a few
errors during the 3D transfer. As such, the original release was met
with some controversy within the enthusiast community. Turbine Media
decided to go back to the 3D presentation and work on resolving the
errors and complaints of fans. The result is a more fine-tuned 3D
presentation meant to address some of the original errors and
shortcomings on the Shout Factory 3D Blu-ray.

As one of the most requested classic 3D films ? and one of the most
requested 3D films to be revisited on the 3D Blu-ray format with a new presentation ? Turbine Media spent extra time and effort to ensure the original theatrical 3D presentation was preserved and any slight errors
or inconsistencies that were previously unaddressed would be resolved.
The end result is a pleasing upgrade for 3D enthusiasts wanting to own
the most definitive home media presentation of the horror classic. It is
a must-own release for anyone who wants the best presentation available
    of Friday the 13th Part 3 3D."

One thing of note, modern 4K players cannot do modern 3D. I don't
understand the technology to explain why not. But in a first for my collection at least, I have the Nightmare on Elm Street 4K box set and
that includes the Elm Street 6 in 3D using the old anaglyph technology.
I *wish* they had converted it to modern 3D, but I understand they could
not have included the modern 3D on the 4K disc, so maybe that's why they didn't bother. I haven't watched it *yet* so I can't speak to the
    quality of 4K anaglyph.

I also have, but haven't watched it yet, the new "Turbine Media" Friday
    the 13th 3D disc. I watched the old Friday the 13th 3 3D blu-ray
anaglyph 3D version, and it was just so-so. Then I picked up the Shout Factory Friday the 13th 3D version which had the modern 3D conversion
and it looked a lot better. I am now looking forward to watching the
new and improved Turbine Media 3D conversion as I'll be going through
Friday the 13th and Elm Street very soon.
