From Your Name@3:633/10 to All on Fri Feb 20 13:14:27 2026

The Americanised garbage movie starring Paul McGann. One for completist collectors, but just don't bother watching it. :-)

Doctor Who: The Movie has been newly restored for 4K and Blu-ray
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
Experience the Eighth Doctor's debut in stunning 4K and well as
a whole host of special features.

In 1996, Paul McGann debuted as the?Eighth Doctor?in?Doctor Who,
a feature length co-production between the BBC and the American
Fox network, more commonly known as?The TV Movie.

This 90-minute feature was shot on film, and now, for the first
time, all 219 reels of original film (totalling almost 200,000
feet!) have been pulled from deep storage in the US and
meticulously scanned over 21 days, then restored by Paul Vanezis
to provide a definitive 4K experience.

The TV Movie?has never looked or sounded so good, with a 24-frame
transfer to match the original film rushes, and immersive surround
sound, rebuilt from the original raw sound elements.

Also starring Sylvester McCoy (the Seventh Doctor), Daphne
Ashbrook (Grace), Eric Roberts (The Master) and Yee Jee Tso (Chang
Lee), The TV Movie sees the Doctor's regeneration triggered on an
operating table, with surgeon Grace Holloway accompanying the new
Doctor on an epic adventure to prevent the Master from stealing
    the Doctor's future lives.

It's infinitely superior or the RTD garbage and features Sylvester
McCoy's best ever performance as the Doctor when he was given decent
material to work with. It treads Whittaker and Gatwa well into the
ground, even Tennant who is now totally discredited.

Since I already own the original VHS release I should be entitled to a
free copy to replace it, besides which no modern computer is capably of playing 4K Blu-Rays and they haven't been able to do that for the past
decade, so I have the right to a 4K digital download instead. Where is

Apparently it was all the "daily rushes", not just the actual released versions of the movie.

"Got to give Paul Vanezis, Mark Ayres and everybody else involved
in this tons of plaudits for this. They really went above and
beyond for this release. Getting all 219 rolls of 35mm film
transferred from America to the uk for scanning. 37 hours of
rushes in total. All needing scanned and reassembled. Plus on
the audio side there is 92 1/4" tapes, A bunch of 8-track
digital DTRS cassettes, and DAT cassettes. Not counting the
8 x 2? 24-track tapes that were also digitised for this. This
has been a very expensive and time full endeavour. I'm very much
looking forward to ordering the 4k steelbook. There might not be
as much new features as I would like but with what they have done
I completely understand where the money is going on this."

My computer is capable of playing 4K Blu-Rays and it is only three years
old. Is it just you are too cheap to spend $100 USD for a quality
external optical drive? Weather the drive is internal or external is
not relevant, drives are available...and I can play said media on my
    computer.

As for what you think you are entitled to, put that belief in one hand,
a pile of shit in the other hand, and see which hand fills up first.

I got an external DVD-burner for my computer a few years ago. I didn't
bother with Blu-ray at that time because they were a lot more expensive
and I didn't have any Blu-ray disks to play anyway.

Hey, Aggy, I'm guessing that, like the rest of the posters here-abouts, you've brought a car sometime in the past.

Do you expect those manufactures/retailers to supply you with a new car every year?? Three years?? Five years?? Ten years??

They do that if you lease the car instead of buying it, but it is a
hideously expensive way of having a car. You can also do similar plans
for mobile phones, computers, etc. :-)

Streaming / ditigal subscriptions are similar - you always get the
newest version ... until they suddenly decide to stop hosting it.

If someone buys a car then they own it. The registration papers are put
in their name. The same goes for buying a house, or a horse, or a
toaster. When they buy a CD, or a DVD, or a VHS tape, or even a digital download, apparently they don't own it at all. Read the sleeve or edge
of the disc. They only have the right to watch or listen to it, so it's
    not the same issue.
