Masters golf Day 3, soaps, and a Lifetime flick:

soaps: DOOL - Stephanie is pretty clearly suffering from PTSD, and now

NuPhilip and NuGabi move into the Kiriakis mansion, which causes Sarah
to worry that Xander will lose it over this (he didn't).
GH - Mostly about NuNuJordan's grievous injuries from the car
accident - they still haven't revealed who caused the accident: I dunno
if Danny is really eliminated as a suspect, but both Brook Lynn and
Isaiah are in the mix. And right after Carly and Valentin sort of
declare their feelings for each other, Carly takes Jack Brennan to bed
to continue to keep him on the hook - Valentin leaves in a huff!

I Have to Kill My Husband (Lifetime) - This was actually pretty good,
though I felt it had tonal problems where the first third is kind of
jokey, until the husband gets kidnapped when it suddenly becomes deadly serious. Anyway, at least they did have a twist in here, as it seemed
most obvious that the mean neighbor lady was setting Our Heroine(tm) up,

I have TV but no guide so I just pretty much leave it on TCM unless I could find a western channel. Saw the Troy Donahue marathon. Had to explain to a therapist. Who Troy Donahue was made me feel old.
What?s worse she didn?t know who Sandra Dee was or that she was a real

    Hey, thanks for asking.
I have TV but no guide so I just pretty much leave it on TCM unless I could find a western channel. Saw the Troy Donahue marathon.

I cancelled my TCM a while back. I miss it sometimes.

    Had to explain to a
therapist. Who Troy Donahue was made me feel old.
What?s worse she didn?t know who Sandra Dee was or that she was a real
person and then she understood the song from grease.

Sorry to say this, but the Grease references is the only way I know her
too. At least I never doubted she was a real person. Or what Troy
    Donahue wanted to do.

    I watched:

The Mummy (4K disc) 1932 classic starring Frankenstein, I mean Boris
Karloff, as the Mummy. This was only my second time ever watching this
movie. I saw it once before about 10 years ago on TCM but had no memory
of it. I was very surprised to see that Frankenstein played the Mummy.
I'm sure it was common knowledge back in the 30s, but if the
commentary track hadn't mentioned it, I probably wouldn't have noticed.
But more surprising that Frankenstein playing the Mummy was for most of
the movie the movie was just a regular walking talking guy. I was
expecting a slow-moving monster wrapped in bandages. That's how he's
depicted in "The Monster Squad," and "Tales from the Darkside the
movie." I thought that's how he was supposed to look. Those movies
lied! This leaves "The Invisible Man" as the final movie in my
Universal classic horror box set that I haven't gotten around to
    watching yet.

The Mummy (4K disc) 1999 remake starring Brendan Fraser as a
swashbuckling hero who rescues a damsel in distress (Rachel Weisz) from
the Mummy (Arnold Vosloo). I've only watched this once or twice before.
I think I enjoyed it a lot more this time. I have a CD compilation of various movie scores which includes the score for this movie. I never
cared much for the score when listening to it on the CD, but the score
sounded a lot better during the movie with the action taking place on
    screen.

The Mummy Returns (4K disc) 2001 sequel which finds Fraser and Weisz
returning to once again do battle with The Mummy (once again played by Vosloo). Only this time they also need to fight The Rock, I mean
Scorpion King. Bad Scorpion King special effects notwithstanding, this
was a lot better than I was expecting.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (4K disc) 2008 sequel which this
time finds Brendan Fraser and Maria Bello (who replaced Rachels Weisz) battling yet another Mummy. But this time the Mummy is from China and
played by Jet Li. It's an OK turn your brain off and watch stuff go
boom kind of movie. But I was very disappointed that most of the Mummy
scenes featured a CGI character instead of Jet Li himself.

The Mummy (4K disc) 2017 reboot starring Tom Cruise as a wisecracking
hero with a smirk on his face (where have I seen Cruise play a character
like that before?) who has to stop an evil Mummy (Sofia Boutella) from
taking over the world. Russel Crowe also stars as Dr. Jekyll as part of
a failed attempt to start a shared monster universe. Unfortunately, I
wasn't really paying attention to the movie and have *no* idea what
happened to his character. One minute he was in the movie then he just
wasn't anymore. I don't know if he died or what. Not the movie's
fault, I really wasn't paying attention. And in a complete rip off of
"An American werewolf in London," Jake Johnson co-stars as the rotting
corpse ghost of Cruise' dead friend who advises him through the movie.

I keep seeing a thumbnail for a movie, I think, called "Miniature Wife"
with a weird picture of a man looking at a small woman riding on a toy

Yep, and then I had to explain to therapy not only who Troy Donahue was,
    but who Troy McClure is.

And it was followed by Susan Slade with Connie Stevens as Sandra Dee. I had

Are you on Roku? Channels like Cinevault Classics, Samuel Goldwyn
Classics and a few others offer pretty much the same thing; there are
some commercial interruptions but they aren't nearly as bad as linear
    TV.

Although I prefer to spend most of my movie time watching movies that
aren't 60 years old or older like much of TCM's creaky fare.

Oh gawd he watched A Summer Place (1959), in which Dorothy McGuire is
the movie's #2 on the list of all-time evil mothers.

Yep, and then I had to explain to therapy not only who Troy Donahue was,
    but who Troy McClure is.

At first I thought you meant, Doug McClue, who I only know from the TV
series "Out of this World." But for some reason, I suspect the point
    still holds. LOL

And it was followed by Susan Slade with Connie Stevens as Sandra Dee. I had to explain who Connie Stevens was, and the history of Hawaiin Eye.

Connie Stevens, best known for starring in "Back to the Beach." Was she
    in anything else? ;-)

voice of Phil Hartman; I suppose who Phil Hartman was must be explained
too. If Donahue had made it as a talk-show host, he'd have had an easier
    time in his final years.

    How about Hawaiian Eye?

I always think of her as a commercial singer. "Ace is the place with the helpful hardware man." when I was a kid. If you're older than me, you'd remember her duet with Edd Byrnes "Kookie lend me your comb".

    She's still alive.

I cancelled my TCM a while back. I miss it sometimes.

I guess I don't under why the age of the movie matters if you wish to
re-watch it or watch something for the first time.

I just enjoyed Stamboul Quest (1934) starring a favorite actress Myrna
Loy on TCM. This is the movie Loy was scheduled to go into production on forcing The Thin Man to have a production schedule of a bit over two
weeks. It's a WWI spy thriller in which her character is based on a
genuine German-trained spy and has a pre-Code attitude, even though the
    Code was already being emforced.
