It wasn't that bad. Malcolm has a nonbinary sibling now, but it was
filmed in such a way that that could easily be edited out. Others have observed that Lois never once refers to Kelly as anything but "Kelly," indicating that Lois is not on board, so that's another way to get out
of it. IMO, they deliberately left those ways out.
