Alec Baldwin Can't Evade 'Rust' Gaffer's Negligence Claims, Judge Rules.
    Trial Set for October
A judge ruled Friday that Serge Svetnoy deserves a jury trial over
several claims involving the deadly Rust shooting that killed

"What do you mean if I list myself as producer that actually means I
    must defend a tort?"

Perhaps this will finally put an end to the outrageous Hollywood practice
of listing three dozen or more producers regardless of the extent to which
they are management. In this case, there is no question that Baldwin had
enough of a financial stake and behind-the-scenes control of personnel
    that he was management.

Neverheless, the plaintiff claiming P.I. is the gaffer Serge Svetnoy?
Fuck the money-grubbing bastard seeking noneconomic damages as a
witness. I read about it in the newspaper, so I must be able to sue too.

Just look at the credits in classic films from the 1940s or 50s and
you'll see just ONE producer - like David O. Selznick - and not one
Executive Producer, Co-Executive Producer, Line Producer, Coordinating Producer, Co-Producer or any of the other kinds of producers you see in
more recent films and TV shows. I honestly don't know what you actually
have to actually do to earn the right to call yourself any of these
kinds of producers in modern film or TV. (Mind you, I don't know really
know what someone like Selznick did either, back in the day. I get that
he would have greenlit a given production but what creative input did he
have? Could he veto the director's casting choices, budgets, shooting locations, the whole enchillada? I'm guessing yes but maybe directors
had actual control over some of it.)

Selznick was an independent producer who created his own company for
Gone With the Wind and Rebecca. As Louis B. Mayer's son-in-law, MGM
    often distributed his movies.

Yes, he controlled casting, the script, and all aspects of production. Hitchcock had so many problems during production of Rebecca that when he completed his deal with Seznick, he had greater control of production
    written into his future contracts.

Hitchcock was usually able to keep costs down during production as he
planned everything in advance. Selznick often started production before
the complete shooting script was ready, so Hitchcock was receiving pages
as production was about to start for the morning.

Hitchcock still "edited in camera" as he almost never shot more footage
than he needed, so even though he lacked director's cut rights, Selznick
had no choice but to use all the footage Hitchcock shot.
