Your government should tell them to just be happy with what they have.

The catch of course is to put that in a way that would satisfy the
appeal courts. (Note that 'your government' refers to the provincial
government of British Columbia though it is awaiting hearing at the
Supreme Court of Canada - which is our equivalent of the SCOTUS)

Clearly that's not true - but no question the white man upgraded their
weapons (notably horses and firearms) to make their warfare more
    brutal than pre-contact.

One tribe conquered another, lusting for their game and their land, just as >they were finally conquered by the white man for no less noble a cause.

Which is to say not very noble at all - and regretably our courts seem
to think that the evilness of the white man outdoes that of native
    tribes.

The very idea that multiple tribes can claim the same piece of real
estate and EACH demand and get payment from thee and me is
    preposterous.

    Alas too true on Tennyson.

Adam has clearly been doing some reading and frankly if the Canadian
Supreme Court WERE to go into darkness by upholding the provincial
supreme court, it would almost certainly provoke a constitutional
crisis where one or more provinces would see a strong separatist
movement (apart from the not so strong one in Quebec)

At best they would probably order a fixed term stay of the problematic
law to give the provincial government time to amend it - though the
tribes are claiming (likely true given the government who passed this
damned piece of legislation) that they were very much part of the
legislative drafting process in the first place.
