We can see why they had to rebel.
Some longrunning shows settle into a groove and become what I think of
as reliable shows -- the magic's gone, but it's still good for a smooth
watch. I don't think Family Guy can do that.
I'm pretty sure some of these shows (Family Guy, Futurama) are only on
the air because of the current need for every show to be in a familiar franchise. They could spin off Meg into Single Gal or Amy into Futuramy,
but why bother when the animated format means they can just keep
churning out the original show?
It's just a property at this point. They actually are spinning off
Stewie into a new show where he's in day care, but the original show
will still have Stewie not in day care.
