So Gatwa has been/will be responsible for killing another series!! ;-P
I don't think Gatwa killed Doctor Who. He had Doctor potential, IMO.
It's the scripts, and the general show direction, which are killing it.
Of course, that won't necessarily prevent him from being remembered as
the jerk who ruined everything.

Sure he did!
He told concerned fans to pound sand and that the show
wasn't made for them.

That was after we already hated the scripts, though.
The dude's an okay actor, from what I've seen. It's the
scripts and direction which have killed its audience, not
Gatwa per se. IMO, of course.

I like Ncuti as an actor. The direction he got for playing The
Doctor was way off what it needed to be to win over fans that
had left during Jodie Whittaker's tenure... plus RTD, wrote some
cringeworthy moments for him.

Someone always complains, though. When they first cast Matt
Smith and released one single picture of him, I observed a
large forum break out into discussion of how he was clearly
only cast for his looks and couldn't act. They were so skilled
that they could measure his acting ability from one still
photo. :-\
The showrunners seemed to expect resistance to his being
black. The bad part was that all objections to the show were
filed under "must be a closet racist."

I had the feeling that RTD didn't really take the show
seriously any more and just saw it as his own personal
showcase and playground.

Well yeah, us Doctor Who fans are good at complaining... you could
never keep all of us happy. As any daily peruse of RADW would show you!
Matt Smith was a good Doctor. Following David Tennant in the role would
have been hard for any actor to do, but he actually did okay.
The showrunners seemed to expect resistance to his being black. The bad

That's an easy way to wave away genuine fan complaints. That's why RTD
gets stick for being arrogant and out of touch.

RTD certainly let his ego run away with him... Doctor Who became all
about his views and opinions on social issues... and everyone else
should think the same as him or they can go to Hell.
He forgot that Doctor Who isn't supposed to be a reality TV show!
