"Air" on FX. I'm not the world's biggest pro basketball fan but the
story of how Nike and the other shoe companies went after the hot
rookie Michael Jordan in 1984 and developed a shoe around him was
interesting. It might be described as the basketball equivalent of
"Moneyball" with Brad Pitt (baseball) and "Draft Day" with Kevin
Costner (football). Great cast including Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Jason Bateman and Viola Davis so it was hard to go wrong. Lots of snippets of
great old 1980s songs (generally used quite appropriately) so it really
    takes you back.

Nikes were the tennis shoes to wear in the early '80s, I remember
buying a pair back then but in my advanced years I switched mostly to
Dr. Scholls and, most recently, Skechers. The ankle-high Air Jordans
were so successful Nike was able to buy out Converse a few years later,
as we learn among the many text updates as the movie ends.

One annoying thing I thought FX did (other than the commercials) was
make a big announcement about how the film was rated R and "viewer
discretion is advised" every single time they came back from a
commercial break. Maybe the wholesome Disney who owns them forced that
but it just seemed like overkill. There's no sex or violence at all in
the film and -- besides a few f-bombs sprinkled in -- the language
wasn't that bad at all. It's not like the movie was airing on a major
network, it was on cable TV. Also kind of ironic since they like to
bill themselves as "FX - Fearless." Shrewd of them to show it on their
network during NBA championship week though.

I saw this in the theater and liked it. I should try to watch it again

    I watched:

District 9 (4K disc) 2009 sci-fi movie written and directed by Neill
Blomkamp. The movie stars Sharlto Copley as a South African bureaucrat
in charge of evicting over a million stranded aliens from a slum the government put them in. They are to be relocated to an even worse
ghetto. But while most of the stranded aliens tend to be docile and
easily manipulated, Copley encounters one alien who is brighter than the
rest and planning to return to his abandoned spaceship (which still
hovers over Johannesburg) to save his people. The movie holds up very well.

Elysium (4K disc) 2013 sci-fi movie written and directed by Neill
Blomkamp. Set in a dystopian future, The movie stars Mat Damon as one
of the exploited poor left on Earth while the rich live a carefree life
of luxury in an orbiting space station. Jodie Foster costars as one of
the evil elite in charge of keeping things the way they are. After
being mortally wounded on the job Damon's only hope to live is to make
his way to the space station where they have medically technologically
that can easily cure him. But Foster sends her psycho assassin (Sharlto Copley) to kill Damon and any other sick poor person with dreams of a
better life. The movie holds up we enough. Although it does feel a lot
like District 9 with a bigger budget and no aliens.

The Black Hole (blu-ray) Sci-movie about a group of space explorers and
their robot side kick on a mission to find habitable life in space. The heroes encounter a black hole and are betrayed by someone they thought
was an ally who tries to hijack their spaceship. Remains one of my
favorite movies and holds up great. And the score is just beautiful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bGOsQFMEbs

Interstellar (4K disc) Christopher Nolan' s 2014 unofficial remake of
"The Black Hole" about a group of space explorers and their robot side
kick on a mission to find habitable life in space. The heroes encounter
a black hole and are betrayed by someone they thought was an ally who
tries to hijack their spaceship. Remains one of my favorite movies and
holds up great. And a great score as well. The docking sequence will
go down in history as one of the best things Nolan ever filmed.

    "It's not possible."
    "No, it's necessary"

The motivation behind the viewer discretion warnings they put up these days is bizarre.

I just watched an episode of CROSS where there was a prominent warning at the beginning that said, "This episode contains a scene of suicide" and then gave
a list of resources where the viewer could turn for suicide counseling.

Remember, this is CROSS, a show about serial killers. People are butchered and tortured in graphic and appalling ways on this show as a matter of routine and we don't get any dire warnings and 800 numbers to call if it bothers us when that happens. But one minor side character eats the barrel of a gun and it warrants grim title cards at the beginning of the episode.

It wasn't even like the character killed herself because she was depressed or mentally ill, which would be the reason someone in the audience might be thinking about suicide. This character killed herself because she knew the serial killer was on to her and she didn't want to be caught and tortured to death slowly by him. Not exactly something a suicide hotline would be able to help you with.

I think you are being generous. The script went where numerous movies
went before and didn't do the familiar material any better, and I don't
think the expensive cast saves the movie either. It's adequate.

I watched several American Dad reruns. One was "The Multiverse of
American Dadness," which has all the ingredients of a disaster: a
multiverse, a celebrity guest star, a death which will clearly be
reversed, and several minor ones. It still does okay, because this show
knows it is no longer a sitcom and is now a showcase.

I've forgotten the title of the following one, but it's a Scooby-Doo
take. It's threaded into the normal world, and it's also pretty good.

work and fast paced. I don?t know why people don?t like this. I absolutely loved it
