Well, I procrastinated all day, but decided to get some over-Summer work done Sat. night. So I needed to put some movies on as background noise

So I watched three movies off Tubi:

ÿÿ The film is structured such that it starts out with a few of the influencer couple's videos, and then switches to, basically, videos from
a "true crime"-type of influencer who is trying to track down what
happened to the missing couple.
ÿÿ This starts interestingly, and basically has one of three ways to go with this set-up:
ÿÿ 1) Gabby Petito
ÿÿ 2) Stalker
ÿÿ 3) Blair Witch
One of these scenarios is much less interesting (and much more cliched!) than the other two. So I will give you one guess as to which one of the three the movie ends up going with!
ÿÿ Like I said, the films starts promisingly, but I think just declines from there through the end.
ÿÿ One problem I has was the film's structure - they keep switching back-and-forth between the couple's videos and the true-crime guy's
(later) videos, and I didn't like this. I think it would have worked
better if they set up with the couple's videos, and then mostly switched
to the true-crime guy trying to find out what happened to them. The switching back-and-forth bled momentum from the proceedings.
ÿÿ I also really didn't like that they based this film off a well-known hoax (please see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/
Camp_Van_Dorn_Slaughter). This also seriously detracted from the latter
half of the film - better to make something up than base your film on a well-debunked hoax.
ÿÿ Anyway, this could have been a decent underrated outing of a flick
if the filmmaker(s) had made some different choices here.
Followers (Tubi) - This 2024 film is a sequel to the 2022 film
"Follower" which I watched a year or two back... So I've been meaning to
get to the sequel (even though the original was very low-budget and not
that great) for a while.
ÿÿ The sequel starts very lazily - literally the first 5-10 minutes of "Followers" is just a quick-cut synopsis of the original "Follower" film.
ÿÿ However, this one doesn't take too long before it actually gets
better than the original.
ÿÿ After their ordeal in the first film, our three heroines(tm) seem to
go their separate ways for more than a year, with the one heroine (Gigi James) who did most of the "saving" in the original film being the most traumatized. The "influencer" one of the group (Revell Carpenter)
manages to stage a reunion among all three, and their current beaus
(Jackson Jones and Michael Bonini). (Somehow, Annika Foster's kind of
hippie character also turns up in this - I missed how/why.)
ÿÿ The problem? The online incel cult from the first film wants revenge
on these three women for what happened in the first film.
ÿÿ While this film is still pretty low budget, in terms of tension and suspense I think it does a much better job than the original.
ÿÿ The problems I had with it were that the "twist" wasn't very
surprising, and I hated the downbeat ending of the sequel, pretty much turning the ending of the original film on its head. Really did not care
for that.
ÿÿ But I guess there won't be a third film!!
Simp (Tubi) - Yikes, this was a mess!
ÿÿ "Simp" is a 2024 film that has a very similar set-up/premise to
another film I've seen in the last few years (but whose title I can't remember... :/ ) - a model is kidnapped from a photo shoot and is held captive where she has to outwit her captor to escape - the difference is that the latter film is suspense/psychological cat-and-mouse horror and "Simp"... tries to find the comedy(?!) in cat-and-mouse human
trafficking! (Wait, *what*?!?!!)
ÿÿ I watched this because the lead, Brooke Piedra, is attractive, and I know the actor (Mike Markoff) who plays her captive from Lifetime flicks.
ÿÿ But, like I said, this movie is a mess - being tonally all wrong,
and making the cat-and-mouse aspect dreadfully dull rather than
riveting. In fact, the only part of this flick I did like was the
model's ex (Todd Wilber, maybe?), at the behest of her mom, trying to
piece together where/how she was kidnapped. But that's a very thin reed indeed, and that and Piedra's decent performance aren't enough here.
ÿÿ And, worst of all, the film kind of ends abruptly and kind of unsatisfactorily.

it out over the AC. Prime doesn't seem to have a way to turn closed
captions on, which seems strange, so there's probably a way I'm not
seeing. I'll watch more.

The control isn't in the Prime app. It's in the carrier. When I watched
via the Roku stick, I controlled captions through the Roku settings.
I need to get around to watching the second season, but I just haven't really cared that much to bother with it yet. I have a few different
shows that technically I liked, but I haven't bothered to watch the
second season yet.

If CC were activated as a monitor feature, in other words, always inthe
stream but not displayed till activated in the monitor, it would have simplfied things for the viewer. Instead, it has to be made visible in
the stream first, before it's output to the monitor.

I agree. It was niserable trying to see closing titles and hear end
music. Hulu via a different Roku stick gave me less grief.

Prime's interface is really quite awful. There's no way to turn off the >>> autoplaying of the next episode. I can turn off autoplay of trailers,

I agree. It was niserable trying to see closing titles and hear end
music. Hulu via a different Roku stick gave me less grief.
Isn't that terrible? The closing credits should be played by default,
but on Prime I have to hit a button if I want to watch them or it'll
just skip to the next episode.

I saw MOONRAKER in the theater with my astronaut friend, who had problems with things like the fact that the orbiter doesn?t have a fuel tank when being carried on a 747 so how the hell did they launch it?
