Elle [new] (3:01 am, Prime Video)
Relative newcomer Lexi Minetree stars as a teenage Elle Woods in Amazon's
series prequel to the 2001 Reese Witherspoon comedy Legally Blonde that follows Elle's high school years. June Diane Raphael, Tom Everett Scott, James Van Der Beek, and Chandler Kinney also star in the series, which
comes from Laura Kittrell (Insecure) and has already been renewed for a second season. 8 episodes?
I enjoyed this season of prequel silliness as Elle Woods (didn't it used to
be L. Woods?) moves to Seattle. I'm not sure how any of this could fit in mental continuity with the movies as Elle's time in Seattle should have
caused her not to be as pink and naive in the films. In this prequel
series, her parents also get significant roles in her life. It was odd
seeing that she has the same father as the boys in THE SUMMER I TURNED
PRETTY. The biggest shock, though, was seeing James Van Der Beek in his
last role; looking very sickly and playing the bad guy. Ian would love
this series as nearly every episode references DAYS OF OUR LIVES, though I appreciated the BREAKFAST CLUB episode more. Decent show.
