Batman Begins (4K disc) 2005 movie written and directed by Christopher
Nolan with a score by Hans Zimmer. The movie stars Christian Bale,
Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Ken Watanabe,
and Cillian Murphy as the Scarecrow. The movie holds up great. And
oddly enough, in spite of all three of these movies being in my
Christopher Nolan box set, when I put together my Christopher Nolan
movie list, I omitted his Batman movies. I guess because I had just
watched them last year. But that's no excuse for skipping them, so I
squeeze them back in again.


The Dark Knight (4K disc) 2008 sequel written and directed by
Christopher Nolan with a score by Hans Zimmer. Pretty much everyone
from Batman Begins returns with Batman this time taking on The Joker
(Heath Ledger).


The Dark Knight Rises (4K disc) 2012 sequel written and directed by Christopher Nolan with a score by Hans Zimmer. Team Batman (including
Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt) must rise to defeat Tom
Hardy's Bane and his mumbling mask mouth. The movie definitely has some problems, but the good outweighs the bad. And I love the first fight
between Batman and Bane as Bane systematically dismantles Batman while
mocking him.

Inception (4K disc) 2010 movie written and directed by Christopher Nolan

Elliot Page, and Cillian Murphy. I'm starting to think Nolan might be

Dunkirk (4K disc) 2017 movie written and directed by Christopher Nolan
with a score by Hans Zimmer. The movie features Kenneth Branagh along
with Cillian Murphy playing a scared man, and Tom Hardy playing a
character who speech is mumbled thanks to a mask in front of his mouth.
The movie holds up great, it looks absolutely stunning in 4K, and the
Hans Zimmer score is wonderful. I know Zimmer has his critics, but when
you put Zimmer and Nolan together, they knock it out of the park. And
when I think of rewatchable movies, this is not one I think about. And
I even considered skipping it. I'm glad I didn't because once it gets
going it never lets up.


Oppenheimer (4K disc) 2023 movie written and directed by Christopher
Nolan with a score by Ludwig G”ransson. Cillian Murphy stars as Dr. Oppenheimer who thanks to his contributions in developing the atom bomb
became death, the destroyer of worlds. Matt Damon plays an army officer trying to keep Oppenheimer out of trouble. Trying to keep Oppenheimer
out of trouble was quite the odyssey for Damon's character to embark on.
Anyway, Robert Downey Jr. gets Oppenheimer into trouble, Emily Blunt
gives a scene stealing performance as Oppenheimer's wife and Kenneith
Branagh pops up because why not.


Tenet (4K disc) 2020 movie written and directed by Christopher Nolan
with a score by Ludwig G”ransson. John David Washington is the
Protagonist of this movie. He plays a CIA agent who gets mixed up in a temporal cold war. Michael Caine turns up as a spy who helps him and
Kenneth Branagh chews the scenery as the villain. Do I have any idea
what the heck is going on? No! Do I love the movie anyway? Yes! The
movie has backwards fight scenes and a backwards car chase. I don't
need to know what's going on to enjoy it! "Don't try to understand it.

Good Will Hunting (blu-ray ) 1997 movie written by Ben Affleck and Matt
Damon and starring Damon as an emotionally troubled genius working as a janitor at MIT. After attacking a cop, a professor works out a deal to
keep Damon out of jail in exchange for Damon's character seeing a
psychiatrist played by Robin Williams. The movie holds up well enough,
but the sequel is better.

What Dreams May Come (4K disc) 1998 movie starring Robin Williams who
after the death of his children dies and goes to heaven but his plans
for the afterlife are interrupted by his wife's suicide. After being
told she will spend eternity in hell he decides to travel to hell to
rescue her. This is one of my favorite Williams movies. It holds up
very well.


Bicentennial Man (DVD) 1999 movie starring Robing Williams as a robot
who starts out as an emotionless machine and over 2 centuries grows into
an emotional being. The movie also stars Sam Neill as the robot's first owner. This is another one of my favorite Williams movies.
Unfortunately it has been stuck on an awful looking DVD. But I took one
for the team and broke down and watched it. I'm sure any day now they
will announce a new 4K upgrade. That's seems to be what always happens
after I break down and watch a DVD.


That completes my odyssey of going through Christopher Nolan and Robin Williams movies. I'll have to keep an eye out for any new Christopher
Nolan movies.

An underrated film. At the time, all those "in the know" claimed the
Norwegian film was better, but I have real doubts about that...

The first tie I saw it, I loved it. The second time I watched it,
suddenly I noticed *all* the flaws! And there are many. I mean, who
climbed up the building to create the burning bat signal? *When* did
they do that and why? And how?!? But on my third viewing and every
viewing after that, the flaws just don't bother me any more. It's not
that you have to turn your brain off, it's just how much do the little
plot issues bug you. And if they don't, they don't.

There are plenty of movies where on an intellectual level I can
acknowledged there are issues with the plot, but they just don't bother
me. This is one of them.

I still have never seen this. It's been on my list for literally
decades. Now that I have a 4k OLED TV, I really should track it down.

It is a beautiful movie to look at. The images of heaven are surreal.
And it's deeply romantic. The story of a man who literally walks into
hell to rescue the love of his life.

But I should probably finish the the last two "V/H/S" films in the
series first.ÿ ;)

Paradise (Hulu) - I got through all of the second season of "Paradise"
on the Hulu.
Remember during season #1 how this show was advertised as being
"sci-fi"? And all of us were, like, "Except for being
"post-apocalyptic", this show really isn't "sci-fi"!"!
Well, in the second half of season #2, this show becomes very, very explicitly "sci-fi".
So, if you liked the show for its (first-season) mystery elements,
you may not like this. But if you don't mind or actually like sci-fi,
then you might want to pick this series up - it's supposed to conclude
with season #3, and now that they've gone very sci-fi here, I am quite
curious to see where the show goes in season #3.
However, this show has an annoying habit of killing off it's most interesting characters - they did this first at the very beginning of
season #1, and in season #2 they seemingly kill off the two most
interesting remaining characters (and then a third they've just
introduced!!). (However, they pretty clearly hint that one of these
"deaths" isn't actually dead, though I don't see how it's possible.)
I was also amused that they set up Shailene Woodley to apparently be
a main character and then are all, like, "Psych!!"
However, I did not appreciate that Gerald McRaney almost wasn't in
season #2, and Cassidy Freeman was *entirely absent* - considering her
son was arrested in S2, her absence operates like a glaring plot hole.
Anyway, there were definite problems with how this season wrapped up
(they pretty literally blow up the premise of the show, which I don't
think I cared for). But as I said - I am curious to see where they go
with the sci-fi angle in the third and final season, and if/how that apparently dead character returns.

Faces of Death (2026) (AMC+/Shudder) - Another IFC, not Shudder, flick.
If you are wondering why this film shares the same title as the infamous (later proven to be almost entirely faked) 1978 direct-to-video flick,
there is an in-film explanation for it.
Also starring Dacre Montgomery and Aaron Holliday, this stars Barbie Ferreira (why is she everywhere all of a sudden?!) as a clearly
traumatized online "content moderator" (it's likely supposed to be
YouTube, but in the film it's a fictitious company) who starts coming
across videos of deaths that she doesn't think are staged, but are in
fact real snuff films. Eventually, she figures out the "inspiration" for
this film (get it yet?!), and that the victims are real internet content creators. She then goes all "Cassandra" trying to warn anyone who will
listen that the videos are real killings, but is brushed off. So she
takes it upon herself to track down the killer.
This is definitely bloody and gory. It builds to a decent
conclusion, but I didn't care for the very ending. I guess this was surreptitiously trying to be a "message film", but I think it didn't
need the "message" at all.

Night of the Hunted (Tubi) - 2023 thriller-horror flick (not to be
confused with the 1955 Robert Mitchum flick "The Night of the Hunter"!).
This was apparently a remake of the 1995 Spanish film "La noche del
rat¢n" [Night of the Rat] though I don't know how closely this version
tracks with the Spanish original version.
Anyway, this was a mostly good thriller - a married woman (Camille
Rowe) and her work "buddy" (Jeremy Scippio) are driving home in the
middle of the night after a work conference, and stop at a gas station/convenience store. But soon enough, while she is in the store,
she's set upon by a sniper (her work buddy has headphones on in the car
and doesn't see or hear this).
What ensues is a cat and mouse dilemma where the woman has to avoid getting killed by the sniper while trying to figure out how to escape
(or alert the cops) and also warn others who stop by.
This was all pretty good... except for the sniper - the movie needed
to have the sniper just mostly shut up. Instead, we hear way too much pointless (and annoying!) pontificating from him.
This movie ends both satisfactorily, and darkly.

He Couldn't Let Go (Lifetime) - Decent Lifetime Sat. night thriller with Christina Milian and Steven Strait.
Incidentally, this was clearly not originally intended for Lifetime
- IMDb has it as a "2024" flick, not a 2026 one - as it sports profanity (Lifetime censored it), and was much more violent than the usual
Lifetime fare - this was obviously supposed to premiere elsewhere, but I
guess only Lifetime picked it up.
Woman (who happens to be an FBI body-language expert or something)
and her husband are throwing a dinner party for the husband's old
college friend whom Milian's character has never met. The college buddy
shows up, but the husband keeps mysteriously coming up with excuses as
to why he's late to the dinner. Meanwhile, Milian's character is getting
weird vibes from the guy. For someone who supposed to be an expert at
sussing out sketchy types, she clearly misses the boat on this one until
it's far too late!

Deadly Sign-In (Lifetime) - Sun. night 2026 Lifetime flick.
First, this is the weirdest thing I have ever seen on Lifetime, but
this flick does NOT show its title on-scree at the film's open. Credits?
Yes. A title? No! Bizarre.
Ella Frazee has been working her way up the Lifetime ladder from bit player to her first-time leading role in this flick. In this one she
plays a chef(-type?) who had some kind of breakdown, but who is trying
to open a restaurant(?). During a dinner party she throws for her
coworkers, someone "casts" what sounds like the recording of a murder to
her wireless speaker. Sure enough, it turns out another young women in
her building was murdered. And now it seems like Frazee's chef is being secretly stalked. Everyone (except her bestie) is a suspect! But she
gets some help from a police tech guy (Mike Markoff, who most often
plays bad guys - it this a clue?...).
This was an OK thriller. If I have a complaint it's that Frazee's character was much too... droopy of a heroine in this.

I also watched soaps, and sports, but I will pass on those.

I don't watch these shows except clips on Youtube. In this case she
had a great original song and performance. She would have made it to
the next round without the cancer issue. It only came up because of
the judges asking her questions so it's not like she used it to try
and win sympathy.

That said given that she died the next year and her treatment was part
of the reason for the song being written explains why it was an
important part of her story. I feel plenty of sympathy for those
experiencing a health crisis, but I have no interest in them other
than what they can do to entertain me.

I watched a bunch of Youtube videos with a truly heartwarming
performance by Nightbirde on America's Got Talent. She did a great
song that spoke to her situation (undergoing cancer treatment with
cancer detected in three locations in her body.)

See, that's why I gave up watching all of those talent/singing shows.
It's not
enough anymore to just have great musical talent. If you don't have some >>> off-show sob story to pull the heartstrings of the audience, you
don't stand a
chance.

Yh, Patricia Wettig's Emmy? Melodrama sells, even living through
real-life recovery.

Did you hear the one about the actress on The Pitt, playing a sympathetic
young mother dying of cancer, who got pissed that HBO never submitted
her performance for Emmy consideration? She submitted it herself.

I heard about that.ÿ I don't watch The Pitt, but I'm circling around
maybe sampling it.

I am leaning "no" on it - I saw "ER" in its heyday - no need for me to
revisit that. And I already watch "Chicago Med" so that itch is
scratched in a much milder way for me. And I don't really want to spend
the time on "The Pitt".

I only watched the first few episodes of "THE PITT" and it's very
different from ER. For one the season is focused on a single day. Also
it's designed to be more realistic than ER ever was. Think of THE PITT
as being more like a docu-drama then the typical drama or soap.

That said the more realistic feel was why I quit watching. There's
enough reality in real life I didn't feel the need to add more
realistic drama to my viewing life. I tend to watch TV now to escape
from reality, not just get a different view on it.

I have never seen the "Following." I have seen every Nolan film except
that one. Although with a $6,000 budget I don't get the impression it's
worth going out of my way to track down.

The Odyssey on the other hand, I'll be going out of my way to see that
in IMAX 70mm. :-)

I *did* like the one episode I watched. I just never bothered to go
back and watch the rest. LOL.

I have a stack of unwatched shows that I know for a fact I will like,
but there is only so much time in the day...

And like I've said before, streaming is really bad for catching up on
things. I can't help but see what I have saved on my DVR, but with
streaming I forget the show exists or what platform it's on. Or I log
on to watch only to discover I'm several episodes behind so I figure
I'll wait until I have a chunk of time to binge them all.
