I can't help but wonder why we don't apply analysis to even more basic
aspects of sports teams. For instance, given that all teams seem to
include a geographic component in their names, why don't we ever even
ask how many of the players on that team are from that city, state or
country? For instance, I've never heard of anyone looking at, say, the
Toronto Maple Leafs to determine how many of the players are from
Toronto, or even Ontario or Canada. I'd bet that very few teams in very
few sports actually have even a single player from that city, state or country.
Then again, as far as I'm concerned any sport that you watch - as
opposed to participate in yourself - is nothing more than entertainment.
Sport is when you run, jump, wrestle or whatever but whatever you
*watch*, whether live or on TV, is entertainment, pure and simple, no different than going to see a concert or an art exhibition or a
fireworks show.
