X-Men '97 Is Renewed for Season 4,
but Here's How Many More Seasons It Could Have
----------------------------------------------
It seems the team behind X-Men '97 sees a much longer journey ahead
for the series. Strong reviews and steady fan support have fueled
confidence in the show's future. While new episodes continue to
roll out, producers are already talking beyond the next installment,
hinting that the revival could remain part of Disney+'s lineup for
years if audiences keep showing up.
Larry Houston reveals goals for X-Men '97's future
Although X-Men '97 has already secured a fourth season, producer
Larry Houston believes the ideal finish line is still several years
away. Looking back at the original animated series, which ran for
five seasons, Houston told The Direct that he hopes the revival can
"at least match" the original show's run. "Five seasons, it would be
great. Maybe six." Whether that happens, he added, ultimately depends
on how viewers respond to future stories.
Houston also explained that Disney+'s format is "more compressed than
ours," noting that shorter seasons leave less room for stories to
breathe. He added that matching the original series' five-season run
would allow the team to explore "a lot more stories...because there's
been 24, 25 more years of other stories that I never touched" that
were never adapted.
Marvel's confidence in the series is already showing behind the
scenes. The show has been renewed through Season 4, making it the
first Marvel Studios series to receive that level of early commitment.
Last year, Marvel Studios' Head of Streaming, Television and
Animation, Brad Winderbaum, revealed that discussions about
Seasons 4 and 5 were already underway while Season 3 was still taking
shape.
The long-term ambitions may not stop there. Producer Eric Lewald
recently revealed in an interview that Winderbaum hopes the series can
eventually reach 10 seasons. ?Lewald said Winderbaum "wants to do 10,"
adding, "We want eight years from now to be having more conversations
like this about Season 10." He also pointed to Marvel's vast library,
saying, "With 60 years of comics... there's really no limit."
Fans also may not have to wait as long between future installments.
Houston said the lengthy gap between Seasons 1 and 2 was a one-time
production issue and that the team has learned from the experience.
Season 3 is already in development for a 2027 release.
